Hello, fellow Questers! I am coming here to tell you about a FANTASTIC new tool one 'julian' has concocted for our fine website!
Created by the genuius owner of the url dediggefedde@gmx.net, this plugin is guaranteed to help improve your TGchan experience a thousandfold!
You can find this amazing script HERE: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/162386

I will be using this thread to detail any and all features of this plugin as I go along!

This thing right here is the formatting bar! Contained WITHIN the formatting bar is a button for each available command that the scriptmaker is aware of!
From left to right:
BOLD
underline
Italics
S T R I K E T H R O U G H
mona/mspgothic font
smalltext
UNICODE FONT
spoilers (dumbledore dies)
Colors (Note: no more than four colors appear to be applicable to one post at a time right now, may be a glitch)
:I::C::O::N::S: (Still in beta)
And finally, the last one is a colorpicker to go WITH the colors script. I am not actually certain if that one is, in fact, finished yet, but it is still a fantastic help to people like me who dont know how hexadecimal works.

in addition to that, you may have noticed that there is also a new PREVIEW function set in next to the reply button!
When you hit that, you will get a nice screenful of this below the post box!

And now for the fun part: See this thing here?
THIS is the biggest pull for this script!
Contained in this little box are a VARIETY of functions that make reading this website just the slightest bit easier, such as adding paragraph margins or inverting the colors of the website.
It also has a neat addition that compresses the watch list into a small, out of the way tab that you simply have to mouse over to acess!

Thanks, Archivemod!
I would also like to add that there is a custom bar for your watched threads (see picture).
It has an auto-rewatch function if the list is suddenly empty (as it is when your IP has changed).
It also only appears on hover or stays visible on click until you click somewhere else.
It shows all watched threads of all boards on all boards.

I already plan for a few updates, namely:
I plan to redo the whole watch bar, so it works independantly of tgchan, using mainly the +50-sites for reference. This could make some nice improves like notification when the author or an image has posted. it would also link to them instead of the whole threads (which is kind of slow on weaver's and lagotropes^^)

Another Update would be intelligent bookmarks, saving your scroll-position and working with the wikis so you can browse the quest-archive and reread awsome quests like cheequest or tozol or divequest or asteroidquest or... more comfortable^^

The input form will be slightly updated as I plan to replace the 3-slide colour-pickers with a one-slide and 2d-image. I also plan to implement the uploaded image into the preview, using some nice html5 file reader... not sure how the support for browsers is now, though...

Another thing to mention would be the new button on quest-lists:
this button using in Firefox will load the last 3000 bytes of the quest into the window. this usually are 5-7 posts. clicking it again will load another 5-7 posts and so on. This usually is faster than browsing to some +50 or whole thread pages as it actually only transfers 3000 bytes.
On other Browsers there was no option to limit the byte-range, so it loads the +50-page into the box instead.

Maybe a last note on how to install this:
I made a more detailed installation guid on my homepage:
http://phi.pf-control.de/Joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=61&Itemid=74&lang=en
It should work on Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari

The homepage is still under construction, so there's not much else to see there^^

Also, if anybody like to contact me, feel free to contact me on Skype (same username) or contact me on deviantart: http://dediggefedde.deviantart.com

You could deactivate "Manage watch list" in the option-menu.
that should deactivate the alert-message.
I updated the script slightly, so you would have 10s time to deactivate the box in case you don't have enough time for that now.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I can't really emulate bad connection as either the site is fully loading or the site and the script doesn't load in offline-mode^^

However, This will change when I make my own watch-menu that does not need to check tgchan's.

The problem was, that when you hide the normal watch-box and deactivate my watch bar, it didn't save the settings. that's fixed with v1.52 now.

About design, well, all changes have off-switches, so if you don't like the design of the page, deactivate "Paragraph margin" and only the new font-size should be applied. The colour could also be inverted with "invert colours" and if you don't like the new design of the new reply-form, just deactivate "Change reply Form".
In the end, only change of font-size and font-type function can't be turned off and I think it's much easier to read in Georgia.

I think, the design goes well with [Burichan],[Futaba] and [Nice], but if you have your own design or design-idea and want it to be included, feel free to send me an e-mail or link to pastebin^^

The writing utility is dead useful but is there a version of the script with just that? I don't really need any other changes to the site.

I was also getting the same error as >>24293 when using the script, even when I'm telling it to not keep a watchlist it just clicked it again when switching to a new tab. It seems that clicking and downloading the remotely hosted version was the issue, that went away when just clicking the oddly placed Install button.

But yeah the other features are neat but if there were one with just the text tool that would be awesome
>>

You can change the font size itself back to normal simply by going into the settings and clicking the up arrow once or twice. Least, it looks the same to me.
The font you should choose to make it look most similar was I BELIEVE times new roman, once you have it set to that you should be good to go!
>>
No. 24312 ID: 9557fa

>>24308
Ah I forgot to update the remote-host.

I also made a new option now, so you can easily switch the font-changing off. a little rearrenging of the options has happened, too.

I can't do much about the oddly placed install button as this is the normal position for the button for all scripts hosted on userscripts.org.

This is cool. Certainly an idea worthy of respect, but I admit the only part that I, personally, can regard as 'useful' is the alterations made to the reply form. Happily, it is modular enough that I might deactivate all features but this.

I will say that the changes made to the reply form are very good and I would like to thank you for this contribution.

But like, what is going on here?

Really liking this (though I did disable the paragraph formatting). But is there some way you could make the hover-images shrink the image if it's larger than the viewer's screen? Because some of the quest authors use pretty large images.

Well, there is a difference between "could do that" and "think of my own of doing that", so that's why everything looks like it does.
The current colors are chosen as I like them the most, but I'm also using futaba the most. detecting which style is currently used is very easy (1-2 commands) but what should I do on what style?

As I said before, if you have suggestions for colors/styles or functions, feel free to post them or contact me per mail or deviantart or skype or icq or ...

Keep in mind, that I'm mostly oblivious to negative change-wishes like "I don't like pink" and priories positive change-wishes like "include function that does... remove shadows where... could you use a darker color where...".

The next time I meet a webdesigner I ask him to dark theme with desaturated colors!

for me all Images are resized to 95% screen-size when oversized...

Well, I made some slightly changes, so it should now work a little bit better.

Yes, that are the colours used by tgchan's default stylesheets. I'm not quite sure what to do with this list... did I change something...
Ah, I accidentally changed the links per default... I wanted to do that in the inverted scheme, sorry^^
Well, something else you want to show me with this list?^^

>>24319
>But like, what is going on here?
Ah, sorry, I kind of over-read this bug-report. I would guess the script or part of it was called twice... Now I let it check for a bar before inserting one, so it shouldn't happen again...

>>24343
>On a completely unrelated note, greentext isn't showing up right for me.
Thanks for the report!
Yeah, it was kind of strange as the function I called here was already implemented in the site, but would also automatically use a background that would hide the "greentext" (which is white in "nice")...
I used a stylesheet to reset the style of the preview-container to "inherit", so it should now show on all themes

Oh, it already has that feature? Well, I just tried reinstalling the script and that works now. So not an issue anymore. Thanks very much! It makes some quests far more readable for me.
>>
No. 24638 ID: 1ca9d2

Okay, I really love this script, but I started having an issue where threads would remain marked unread even after I read them. I tried turning the 'manage watch list' off and noticed that the default watchlist wasn't popped out. Once I popped it back out and then reactivated that script feature, threads were being marked read just fine. I dunno if it'll be possible or not to do something about that, but either way a headers up.

So it looks like it can manage your watch list even when the website doesn't actually have it active and that causes this odd issue.

Now that I know of this workaround, I can just use it whenever the problem occurs again. I hope this helps anyone else who might suffer this problem before a fix's put out (if one's possible).

mmh... I haven't encountered that yet... I will look into it a bit...
However, I'm currently working on a complete separate watch-system that merly synchronize the watched threads with the internal system, but can also work without. This would make it possible to export the list to a file and load it on other computers or use it as some sort of "accounts" for multiple users behind one IP.
It has also some nice treats like linking to the +50-pages, jumping to the last read post, highlighting differently when new images are posted/author made comments etc. But it's only halfway finished^^
Of course this would be another module that can be turned off to the current behavior or completely off to the tgchan-watchlist.

>>24644
And of course there has to be a check before the script's name to indicate it is active.

If it completly vanishes, it might be a javascript-error.
Press ctrl+shift+j (Firefox or Chrome) to get the error-console open. clear its content, choose the "error"-tab and reload the page.
Now all javascript-errors should be tracked with a link to the script and code-line where the error occurs.
It might also help to post which url (subdomain) you are using for tgchan and what other scripts are affecting the site.
In worst case, you could try to reinstall the script. YOu should restart the browser before installing it again though, otherwise not all saved values might get removed...

:psycho:

Well, not really, mostly fixes.
However, now the new option "extended watchbar" is available!

->All watched threads are saved within the browser!
->It checks every time you navigate for updates
->it remembers your last viewed post and gives you a link marking it
->it shows you really how many posts have been posted since then.
->if the number is blue, there was a new image posted since you last logged in
->when available, +50-links are used instead of the full pages for the number of new posts.
->when available an additional +50-link is added to the thread-id on the left

Also now the watchbar sorts the boards according to
draw - meep - quest - questdis - tg - questarch

There may be still some bugs, so I encourage anyone to test^^

Alright, the new watch function is cool, but it seems a little bugged in that sometimes the watch for one thread actually seems to go to another thread sometimes. Basically, it seems to index the thread with a different name than it actually has. I wonder if this is an issue with importing old watches--I did notice some initial hiccups while switching over.
>>
No. 25132 ID: 7da04e

I just tried clearing out my watches and manually re-adding. But the script doesn't seem to want to add Key/Abduction Quest or Static On the Wire to the new watch list. There're likely other threads it hiccups on. I've just disabled the new watch list function and gone back to the old until those sorts of issues're fixed. I really do like the new function though, issues aside.

I now have a feature request. I like the highlighting if a thread's had an image uploaded, but could we get an option to selectively enable this kind of highlighting for posts in a thread even if there aren't any images? For example, I'm currently following this thread as well as Cocona Quest which is a low-traffic text quest that doesn't always have images in its updates.

Also, I think the watch list might need widening or at least an option to widen it. It currently wraps around for the thread numbers and such (image enclosed).

Now I released v1.65!

I added a little settings-dialog to set it individually whether to highlight the bar on new images.
Also I implemented a search for a specific ID.
When found the number will get a red shadow. Also an option to highlight when this is the case...

There is also a grid on the left of the watchbar now!
It's a bit slow on reaction, but it works and will save the defined width.

>>
No. 25158 ID: 10ca6c

Having used the new features for a while, I think a better option than the ID option (authors can change alias for different characters and/or post from different IPs) would be highlighting threads with new posts that have a subject line. Updates in text quests tend to use subject lines even if they don't use pictures.
>>
No. 25159 ID: cc1f06

I could reproduce the problem on a laptop I didn't use for some time.
Now it should be backward compatible again.

technical reason: before 1.5 I used a variable to store board and id, divided y : and _.
Then I made my extended watchbar and needed author and title, too.
So I changed the delimiter to chr(11) and chr(12) as : and _ are allowed within title or name. Then I had something else to do and forgot to make some backward compatibility so this got changed...
I think this should be fixed now...

Otherwise, removing the script, restarting the browser and installing it again should also have fixed that...

In addition to the earlier request to an additional option to highlight for updates with subject lines, I'd also like to report a minor issue where it seems to include the last previous post before the new post in the new post count (so a quest with one new post will show two new posts). It also takes you to the last old post instead of the first new post when you click on the link.

would be strange if it would work different on a different style as I made the script actually doing that, what is reported.

However, it's not a bug ("but a feature")^^
Well, no, I didn't really put much thought into this as the last post is saved anyway, so I put it into the link. Will change it to the next one, when the update is ready...
About the last read post counting, too... it could be something silly with using substring and indexOf for a key-word counting posts, but then not adding +1 to the index/ substracting 1 from the result as the first word is counted, too...

I also plan on some import/export thingy for the next update...
So, it may take a few days but it will be easier to use it from different computers then. Stay tuned^^

Well, yes, my script-presentations usually have the character of advertisement^^ just that there is no * beside the $0!
Once I had to explain in detail why I would offer a script for some forum... free stuff must be adds or virus's, right?^^

About your suggestion, I guess you want to use it when you make a new post and wait for new suggestions... but wouldn't that already work if you just visit your thread after posting a new post? That way you would only get notified about posts of others... ok, currently there is this bug Kaja talked about, that the last post is also counting... but I think it would already work like that when fixed.
So, I'm not a big fan of a blacklist-idea...

Although I thought about working on a function to only show image-posts or posts from a certain id when a button is clicked etc.

>>

>>25192
ah, I think I didn't say that right...
I mean, when you post a reply and go to the quest-page, then the script would already register your own comment as the latest read one. So, after that without revisiting the quest-page, the script should only react to posts after the one you posted...
I mean, this should be natural behaviour of the script when the quest is visited just after you wrote a reply... a hindrance is of course that you are redirected to the board-page after posting, not the actual quest-site...
Of course there is also the problem that was the start of this function: I have a fast changing ID, so in my case, to blacklist my own ID works a couple of hours...
So I think I'll need a bit more thinking about this feature...

It could check the name field (the bit where it says "Kaja" in this post). This only works where the author doesn't change names with characters, though. Another example might be a "NOT" option, where it highlights on posts that aren't image posts, or don't have a subject line (if you put in that feature I suggested).

Hello again!

Worked again at some things that might come in handy.

First minor thing, backward compatibility. This update should work again with all older versions.

Then a new feature: import/export!
This can be found within the settings-tab, however, the things to get exported/imported are your watched threads, thread-options and last read posts. Import them on any computer to always stay updated on your watched threads. I recommend saving the file in dropbox/other cloud/your ftp server so you can seamlessly import on your other machines.
this only works with the extended watchbar as the normal integrated one is just a restyled/enhanced version of the inbuilt.

Another feature:
new options for the extended watchbar!
Now you can choose to highlight the whole bar (red shadow) on certain IDs, Names, for Images or for all posts.
You can also ignore posts with images, certain IDs, Names or all post (deactivates highlighting for this thread) with some easy clicks.
Notice that ignoring is stronger than highlighting.
If you ignore a name but highlight images, no highlight will come when this name posts an image.
However, unless ignored the thread-number will change appearance regarding what was detected:
red shadow for id, strikethrough for name, blue color for image.
There are also the +50-links available again that somehow got deactivated sometime...

Also minor thing: the settings-tab got a scroll-bar when the page is too short...

>>25213
Shouldn't be a problem...
I think this was caused by a minor bug messing up internal settings... you might need to update, reload, delete the affected threads and watch them again to clean those settings up, when this keeps occurring.

Of course I also implemented some bugs, because it's so much fun fixing them when reported...

A pretty good update. Just one problem. With it set to highlight on all posts, the highlighting for the watchlist bar does work, but the number for new posts isn't changing to blue like it does with new images. Actually, I like the red for matching IDs better than the blue--the latter stands out far less from the green numbers.
>>
No. 25239 ID: ed8baf

>>25238
Well, the blue is only for images, the red only for id matches...
I tried to make this so that you can easily see how the current status are.
So if you highlight any posts, you likely know that you want to know about any posts submitted... so the any-post-settings got no visible highlight. it is recognizable by reading a value not equal 0.

I also forgot, the numbers are red when the script is still scanning the sources.

So, do you have a nice theme to suggest?
I would really like to indicate different states, so there must be font-effects that are compatible:

scanning - red simple text 0
no posts - green, underlined 0
new posts - green, underlined #

now the compatible ones:
new images - color:blue
ID detected - text-shadow: red 1px 1px
Name detected - text-decoration: strike-through

However, maybe a better ID would be to highlight the whole row when this thread is causing the bar to highlight.
So, e.g. a nice box-shadow, border or background-color effect?
>>
No. 25242 ID: 13d429

>>25239
A core problem's that threads which you're highlighting for all posts look exactly the same as threads you aren't highlighting for all posts. There's no difference in the green post numbers.

Highlighting the entire row sounds good, though. That'd make it stand out more in general.
>>
No. 25243 ID: 628b26

Now, when a thread is updated and you set a notification within the extended watchbar, the entire row is coloured.
The color depends on the last checked thing you activated:

All posts: green
Posts by name: red
new Images: blue
Posts by ID: yellow

So if you activate to give notification for all new posts, the row will be highlighted green. if you additionally watch for Names (e.g. Suggestion) the row will be highlighted yellow if a new post of suggestion is detected, otherwise green for new posts.
In other words, priority is set reciprocal to the list I gave above.

The style of new item-numbers should give a clue about the combination with other events you set to be informed about.

Of course, ignoring name, id or all is still stronger than watching that.

Well, I also don't have that.
I just deactivated extended watchbar and was prompted that my IP has changed and if I want to rewatch my old list. I said yes and everything seemed to work. I enabled it again and it worked again...
But maybe that are some data-fragments from previous versions.

I released a new Update that checks for corrupt data at some point.
Would you please update to v1.74 and reload the page after checking "extended watchbar"?

If that doesn't help and you use Firefox then you can type "about:config" in your address-bar and there is a text-field where you can type "tgchan".
Then you right-click at the entry "watchids" and choose the lowest ("reset" or something like that). After that you need to reload the tgchan-site and deactivate and activate "extended watchbar". This will reimport all the threads you are currently watching, using the tgchan.org's system.

Of course I would like it much more, when my update is sufficient to help you without making more problems^^

From what I can see, it seems like there's some issue that arises where sometimes the read count resets so that it shows all the posts in the thread. I think this might possibly be caused by deleted posts somehow, but I'm not sure.
>>
No. 25282 ID: 13d429

Tested and confirmed. I went to the /questdis/ page and deleted the latest post to my own questdis thread that I had made myself straight from that page, without entering the page for the thread. It promptly reset the read count. So it seems like if the post the script's got recorded as the latest one disappears, it can't handle it. Not sure there's an actual good way to fix it.
>>
No. 25284 ID: 7aacfc

mmh...
That would indeed cause this behavior.
If the No. of the last read thread would disappear (e.g. post removed), It would count all entries...
A fix could be that not one but two or three No. are saved, the last existing one would be the last read...
Still, this would only decrease the probability of incidence.

also noticed is a speed lag in chrome.
somehow, looking up the quests slows down chrome to around a minute while firefox needs 5 seconds...
For that I planned using a eco-mode where only the +50-page is checked instead of the full page. However, this will lead to a constant "50" if you haven't read within the latest 50 posts...
In Firefox, this would be easier as here I can send a Range-Header to specify which byte-parts to download. This is done with the arrow-up-button in the board-sites where you can see additional ~3-5 posts, but only using Firefox.

also though about a "open all updated threads in tabs" button...

DISCUSS!^^

Here's a possible workaround for the deleted post issue:
>script looks for the last post
>if the last post is found, it functions as usual
>if the last post is not found, it starts working backwards until it finds the previous post and just counts from that post instead
So for example, if the recorded last post is 25000 and 25000 is deleted, then the script will then start looking for 24999, 24998 etc until it finds the post before that. Then the script sets that post as the last read post and runs as usual.

I fixed some minor things:
-> settings-bar will adapt height better to window
-> scripts works now in questarch
-> some smaller bugs

And I added a new feature:
You can now sync settings, last read pages and watched threads directly over my server.
As everything else, this is optional.
To register an account there, you need a mail-adress.
http://phi.pf-control.de/tgchan/interface.php

After making a valid name-mail-password combination, you get a verfication-mail with a shiny button.
Then you can fill in your name and password within the settings-bar and either down- or upload your settings per hand.

If you want to have individual settings but same watched threads on all pcs, you can set that in the web-page after logging in.

For me this feature works far more comfortable than the import/export function. ^^

Later the accounts on phi.pf-control.de will be used for future features...

new idea: quest2pdf

someone put a lot effort in making a pdf from old polo-quests, so I thought of making a LaTeX-file automatically with the script.
There will be some options to choose from, e.g.:
1. [y/n] only author-posts
2. [###] minimum suggestion length
3. [y/n] only images from author-ID

The script will then create a zip-archive which contains all the images from the board and a few .tex files.

These .tex can be compiled (e.g. with miktex for Windows) and made into .pdf (or .dvi or .ps, just what you like).

There will be multiple .tex files to make a choice of templates. As they are simple text-files, you can also freely open and edit them, if you want to change some colors.

For now, I fiddled around with the first template. The resulting .pdf in A5-format can be viewed here:
http://phi.pf-control.de/tgchan/scientific.pdf

If you know LaTeX and have a great idea for a template, feel free to send me the file and I will implement it.
>>
No. 26126 ID: e1609c

good shit, man. Could be useful for archiving things.
>>
No. 26127 ID: 6cfde9

I finished the basics for converting.
currently it's an external script that takes all posts on the site for the pdf. Also, posts with images are deemed to be from the author and regarding aligned.

As you know, animated gif and swfs won't work in pdf.
However, I still think it's an interesting feature as pdfs can also be read on ebooks... and it's a little more comfortable...

So far, I tried it with the recent
Unnatural Selection - Belenosian Interlude 3 (Thread 9)
Generating the .tex-file takes 10 s.
grabbing all images around 20 s.
Conversion of gif to png takes 1 s.
Compiling the file takes another 30 s.

so, basically you have to click 4 times in 1 minute to generate this:
http://phi.pf-control.de/tgchan/Unnatural_Selection__Belenosian_Interlude_3.pdf

I also designed the template to be easily understood and adaptable, in case you know some better layout:
http://phi.pf-control.de/tgchan/scientific.tex

However, in the end you will need some freeware to compile the tex-file. For windows I recommend TeXnicCenter and MikTeX. you will also need to make a check in the package-manager of miktex for every package used within the template, if you want to compile boards yourself.

There also may be a few bugs regarding formatting as it's not quite easy to convert HTML into LaTeX automatically, but I guess it's fine at the moment.

Enjoy 420 pages Unnatural Selection^^
>>
No. 26136 ID: 408618

Changed some formatting to fix some problems.
1. typewrited paragraphs are now justified mostly correctly.
2. nestes formatting is now translated correctly.

for javascript-knowers:
first I used Regexp with a /<span>(.*?)<\/span>/g tag, however, this fails whenever there is some nestes span:
<span red><span italic></span></span>
So now I use a for-loop to go through the text and a stack. span-formatting will push the needed anti-format onto the stack and </span> takes the last stack to insert into the document.

I updated the pdf linked above...
>>
No. 26162 ID: b32bcb

I revised a few things again and made some gui.
actually it's a finished script and I just need to copy-past it into tgchan_BLICK and link it to some button...

To show off, I made 3 Versions of the first "unnatural selection" thread in different Versions.
As this is using templates to generate, appearance can be changed easily. It also still only takes 2 Minutes to download and compile one Version. Of course, you need to do some minor fixing, like adjusting the author's name and your own as the "compiler", if you like...

currently, 2 themes are available: "scientific" with 30% wide images on the left side for author's posts and "bigthumbs" with 80% wide Images centered at the beginning of each post. also some minor differences.

Scientific, all posts, only author-images, identified by ID:
http://phi.pf-control.de/tgchan/unnatural_selection_1_scientific_all.pdf

Scientific, only author-posts, identified by ID:
http://phi.pf-control.de/tgchan/unnatural_selection_1_scientific_authors.pdf

BigThumbs, only author-posts, identified by ID:
http://phi.pf-control.de/tgchan/unnatural_selection_1_bigthumb_authors.pdf

Hi again!

I fixed some bugs regarding online-syncing.
the registration process was bugged, so you would have had an account but wouldn't be able to use it for syncing. When I was testing this back then, I must have generated the database entries manually or mixed something up later on.
Anyway, for those that want to give it a try: it seem to work now with 2 dummy accounts I created.

Regarding those that already made an account: I went through your database entries and corrected them by hand, so it should also work for you now.

Another coming Update with a bigger feature is the PDF export feature. Some of you may know you can popup a small dialog exporting all images to a .zip file and creating a .tex file, which can be converted to .pdf with some free compiler. This required you to download and install a ~300MB programm most of you would never have used otherwise... so... I discarded this in the next version.

Instead I made a js-request to the jspdf library, which can create pdf's directly. Downside is I had to write wordwrap, pagebreak, formatting and image-embedding myself, but actually it was fun^^
So, the next update will have a new dialog where you can convert any thread you like within 1-3 minutes to a pdf file, e.g. to read offline, archivate, print or put onto some mobile reader.
There will be some nice settings to choose from and reflinks (>>ones) will let you jump to the post, if it is shown.

I'm a bit too sick at the moment to put out the update and do some proof-checking, but in the meantime have an example pdf:
https://onedrive.live.com/download?cid=8727E57070314457&resid=8727E57070314457%21760&authkey=ALcLlrjKvL0xfg8

An Install Link again in case you can't find one:
http://phi.pf-control.de/userscripts/tgchan-BLICK/923627.user.js

Now you can export a quest into a PDF with a few clicks.

At the bottom of the blue tab there will now be an "open dialog" button which will open the dialog I posted a screenshot of in this post.
There you can do some settings. To Include all Posts, leave the include-field empty. Otherwise use a comma separated list of names, ids or post No. to be included. Image-Quality will effectivly reduce the image size to the percentage number you give (e.g. 50 will use images with 50% width and height of the original). This will increase pdf generation and reduce pdf file size.

As far as I can tell, all tgchan formats are supported including those small icons. Reference Links (>>Number) can be clicked and focus on their post when it is included. Fractured texts with those crazy symbols above/below will turn to garbage, though.
Flash-files not be printed, animated gif and apng will only have their first frame in the pdf.

This will request now the jsPDF library and some kind of API I've written to make pagebreak, wordwrap, capsuled formatting, clickable links and references and img prefetching work.

If anyone wants to use the API I've written, feel free to do so. ^^

Thought I would post something informatical again...

Originally this script was made for rheuma-online.de/forum which is a forum dedicated to german people suffering from rheumatism. In some cases this can affect the eyes, which apparently can lead to some destructive processes if unnoticed, including an overpressure leading to glaucoma. This was the case for a relative of mine and after the initially therapies (medicaments, laser-operation etc.) was over, she had like 20% left and 7% right remaining eyesight. With some tools she was still able to read and wanted to participate in the forum, but the layout is very taxing on the eye and using browser magification tools (e.g. ctrl & +) will make the comment section far too small.

So, back then I wrote a little userscript to make it easier for her to read the forum: hiding sidebars, increasing only font size, choosing font face, inverting colours etc. What really helped her were of course some later treatments, including a pretty risky operation (~ 70% of success, 30% that your blind afterwards), and weekly needed syringes, so nowadays she can see pretty good again.

Then at some point where I was still reading the tgchan archives and graveyard (finished some years ago), I got pretty tired eyes, remembered the script and rewrote it a bit for tgchan... and didn't really stop developing...

Once in a while I still have some ideas I deem nice and try to implement in tgchan_BLICK. ^^
However, what's also pretty interesting in my opinion is, that in that rheumatic site I was almost immediately accused of writing and spreading a virus because I didn't take money for the script...

In case you didn't know, you can also always post hopes and dreams, I mean suggestions here, if you have any.^^ Might just take a while for me to get to them...

... I browsed the icon list, so have a smiling baj from Battle Quest^^
Although this icon was apparently never used outside of the discussion >>/questdis/75048

Sorry it was originally a question that turned into a topic of it's own. I just have a very uncomfortable personal past with the word so it always rubs me the wrong way. I appreciate the article, but just fyi when they talk about the origin of the word, they're referencing a scene in a movie which isn't really factually informed; I appreciate the source but they don't seem to have done the bare minimum of a google search so I'm not sure how reliable anything on that page is beyond personal opinion. Next time I'll make a new thread though, again apologies for clogging up this one.
>>

>>28104
The article is primarily about usage and meaning of a word within the confines of a specific culture- the actual factual correctness of the historical usage is largely irrelevant. I'd say that's better viewed as a kind of lore or mythos- factually questionable, but potentially offering insight to the people or peoples who hold onto that myth. The stories peoples and cultures tell themselves are worth considering when you try to study or understand them.

And yes, that article is subjective and not evidence based- it's the work of (an) insider(s) describing the perceived colloquial use within their own subgroup, not the work of someone trying to objectively study it.

There is a spam filter and I've been adding stuff to it constantly. A lot of stuff is getting through, but a far greater amount is being stopped at the door (judging from the ban list).

As you may know, reporting any threads with 0 replies automatically deletes it (I don't know if it bans anyone, though)

We may have to make the new-thread captcha a site-wide thing, since it looks like /quest/ has comparitively little spam.

Is there some function to automatically block any new thread that contains a link in any of its fields? That would probably stop them.

It'd mean people can't link previous or questdis threads in quest OPs anymore, but they could just put them in a follow-up post.
>>

>>28193
Not being able to put links in the OP would be really annoying tho, since the OP is displayed when a thread is shown in a board, an in the abbreviated last 50 / last 100 forms. Makes the links to the wiki / last threads / dis / whatever always accessible.

You lose that convenience and would have to open the full thread every time you wanted the links. Assuming the reader knows they're there.

Since this seems to be the general thread for site related discussions, I just had an idea for eliminating votestuffing that I wanted to share and ask if it's feasible.

When you visit the site it could ask what your zip code is, or similar general-location-identifying information. It compares this to the location attached to your IP address. If they match, you're let in (and sets a cookie so it doesn't have to ask you repeatedly). If they don't match, then obviously you're using an anonymizer, right? Those all hand out random IPs from the giant network of proxies, so you don't even know what your own IP is.

I suppose there could be problems with this, though. People can always just vote with their phones for a duplicate vote, for instance.
>>
No. 28338 ID: 1be618

>>28336
As far as I know, this is NOT the general site discussion thread. It is used to describe and provide a userscript I once wrote and maintain. For further information, see the opening post.
What I did was asking for ideas to further improve the script. I guess that's why people think now, this is the general discussion thread.
But then again, that's entirely up to the community and moderators. ^^

General site discussions are... not collected somewhere else yet? I thought I remembered seeing some thread, but it's probably dead...

About the idea:
The main idea of this board design is to keep being anonymous if wanted. So at least I don't want to give the site my location.
Restriction for yourself would be... if you access the site on a mobile device, can you always tell the local zip code? In a train ride through the country? On vacation? What if you need to use a vpn, for example because the wlan provider uses one.
And regarding bots and such... since you compare the manual typed in code with an automatically generated location, bots can do that in advance, too.
And if you are a person, you typically can also find out the location of your ip adress in advance.
Aside from that at the realization point, you need to find a zip code system, that is working worldwide. in the US you have something like 22162–1010 according to wikipedia. in Germany for example we have 20251 for Alsterdorf near Hamburg. How about Russia, India etc. ?
All those different systems would need to get implemented to compare them with the ip. provided that all nations actually have a code similar to zip...

Hi again!

Important notice: the update system of the previous versions might got broken at some point. To make sure you receive updates to this script again, please install it again:

http://phi.pf-control.de/userscripts/tgchan-BLICK/tgchan-BLICK.user.js

:baj: Now about updates:

:dq_char_3: I sped the script up a bit (20-fold or so). Loading tgchan.org with BLICK should not slow it down anymore.
:dq_char_2: The icon picker input form (second last button) was reworked with a preview, a lazy-loader and a text search.
:dq_char_3: PDF-Export is reworked and works a bit faster now.
:dq_char_2: Deactivating the new AutoUpdate watchlist-option, the script will not request news for all your watched threads on every pageload for extended watchbar.
:dq_char_3: Instead you get a refresh-button at the top of the extended watchbar.
:dq_char_2: extended watchbar changing size was fixed to go a bit more smoothly
:dq_char_3: extended watchbar will automatically link +50.html, +100.html or .html sites depending on your last seen post.
:dq_char_2: most browsers freeze when more than 3 parallel update requests are send, so extended watchbar will now limit itself to 2 parallel requests.

Some Programmer information:
I ditch JQuery to make it a little more lightweight and reworked most functions with JSHint.
If anyones interested in statistics:
>There are 112 functions in this file.
>Function with the largest signature take 4 arguments, while the median is 0.
>Largest function has 103 statements in it, while the median is 4.
>The most complex function has a cyclomatic complexity value of 43 while the median is 2.

My watchlist fucked up weirdly.

The order is reversed now, showing quest dis at the top and scrolling down from newest to oldest. It used to do the reverse.

All titles are off by one entry. The links/num replies will be to say, Coxette but the title will be fen quest, and so on down the line with the title moved up to the next newest slot. Progenitor is my most recent watch and is not listed at all, though it is linked.

A large number of older entries have been changed, now reading No Author - Anonymous for title and author, despite having valid (and correct?) links attached.

Not sure why this happened, I haven't updated to your new version yet. Attached is my archive log.

Thanks for the report and the idea!
Sorry for the late response, I was offline for a week.
Also sorry for the inconvenience.

~230 entries, that's a pretty long list. ^^
I'm working on something that can restore faulty databases. Currently it can restore the original list from the file you sent me, but fails to save the restored list internally. I might need a few days for that.
I will probably not be able to fix the order, though...

However, ordering by the time you added the thread is also a bit unintuitive. WOuld perhaps a different order be better (topics, times, ids)?

I will add a button for adding the current thread to the watchlist then, too.
>>

Hey, thanks for the reply at all, I was fairly sure I'd just have to restart as though I were a new bob.
And thanks for really and for true for setting up the script. It is so much better than any vanilla way of tracking threads.

I actually like the order change. Having the more recent ones load first is useful since they tend to update more often. Having it sorted by most recent post time would probably be my ideal, but I'd make do with anything sane, like the current reversed order.

Since I have your ear, have you considered a sort of folder/collapsible that graveyarded threads get moved into? If you only updated them when the user opened the collapsible you could save some cpu cycles that would likely go wasted checking 230 long dead threads.

Take all the time you need tho. It may be messed up and weird, but its still functional on my end.

I was able to fix a few bugs and partly broken import files are now repaired when quest updates are requested. Didn't work on the graveyard/questarch section yet, though.

If you want to use the script, you need a browser-extension for userscripts first.
Tampermonkey now supports Chrome, Opera and Firefox (and almost every other browser). The original extension was Greasemonkey for Firefox. In Opera, the original would be ViolentMonkey.
Scriptish often doesn't work as expected with my scripts, so I don't recommend it here.

Once that is installed, click the download-link to the .user.js file again and it will be installed in your browser.

GreaseMonkey (Firefox): https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

I can't access the wiki any more. I was already unable to use tgchan.org or b.tgchan.org, but I used to be able to use c.tgchan.org and thatquestsite.org. Now, since the last time the site went down, c.tgchan.org doesn't work any more, and while I can still use thatquestsite.org to see the quest board itself, it doesn't work for the wiki.

To anyone using Greasemonkey with Firefox who has lost the use of this script in the recent update, try switching to http://tampermonkey.net/ , as it still works.

I haven't worked out how to import an old watch list tho.
>>
No. 28816 ID: 430719

Hi!
The last greasemonkey update broke all my userscripts...
Since the new greasemonkey is incompatible with old scripts and old Greasemonkey versions are incompatible with new scripts.

I assume Tampermonkey will sooner or later also switch to the new Greasymonkey API calls.
This means for you, that switching browsers or browser versions will only be a temporary solution.

---Important part---
I just finished a slight rework of the script that is now compatible with the new Greasemonkey, the old Greasemonkey and Tampermonkey.
It also seems to work with watchbar-network-synchronization, watchbar-file-import or just using the old watchbar data.

Please update to the new version v2.20!
Install: http://phi.pf-control.de/userscripts/tgchan-BLICK/tgchan-BLICK.user.js

In case something went wrong, I still have v2.16, which is likely to stop working soon on tampermonkey...
http://phi.pf-control.de/userscripts/tgchan-BLICK/tgchan-BLICKv216.user.js

--- ---

Especially in Tampermonkey there was a problem were Regexp was interpreted differently as in Greasemonkey.
This made it impossible to load old watchbar files and eventually slowed the browser down.
This got fixed in the update as far as my tests went.

I might have introduced some additional errors, since there were some major reworks done.
Everyone is using asynchronous calls nowadays, which is the main reason the old script broke.

what once was
var value=GM_getValue("storedValue");
alert(value);
is now
var value=null;
var prom=(async function(){value=await GM.getValue("storedValue");})();
prom.then(function(){alert(value);});
(not a fan of the new arrow functions yet...)

In this example a synchronous call would be better, but there are many spots in the code, where the second way is actually increasing the script's speed.
You might notice a speed increase in the new version.

I also dropped the fallback to localStorage since the storage-limit was too low for a moderate watch-list anyway.

I didn't have much time to revise the interface for that script, so I decided to disable to feature for now.
I'm not sure if anyone was actually using it...

So, with v2.21 the quest-to-pdf convertion is disabled and thus it seems to work in chrome again.
Firefox didn't have any issues with it as it seems.

I might be fixing the feature in a future update if anyone is actually missing it. ^^

Personally, I'm worried that one day the server
and backups will get corrupted and some of our favorite archived quests might be lost forever. It's not likely, but life happens.

We don't need a pdf so much as an executable file that can be used with a web browser to check stuff. It can be buggy as long as it has all the relevant data. You'd have to scrub it of personal data, and save a screenshot from image links so they won't depend on the internet.

We could vote on which quests get this treatment so this only needs to be done with popular stories. The plus side of this is that you can put any long-but-popular quests into a zip file and send that to be downloaded, so the server doesn't get constant requests for web pages from the archives.

DSGVO (EU-Datenschutz-Grundverordnung) and Datenschutzerklärung

I added some privacy policy information on the website regarding the script-accounts.

As you may know, the script offers you to create an account, so you can synchronize watched threads, read posts and bar settings.
Since I and the server is located in Germany, the new European DSGVO rule applies.
In summary, you need to be informed and asked about any of your data saved by any European website. You also gained the right to be forgotten on demand (aka data deletion).

In this case, you need your email-address, a username and a password to register. This is of course stored. In case of the password, a one-way-encrypted hash is stored. For the activation link, the date of your registration is stored. The website-hoster also has an access-log where your IP-address is stored, but not connected to your account.
When you press the "Upload"-button in the script, a list of the ids of your watched threads, last seen posts and script settings are sent and stored on the website. Aside from that I don't gather or save any data of you.
If you don't use an account, no data is gathered from you.

Android-Tests
I did some further tests on Android with the recent Firefox and I like it so far. ^^
Especially increasing the font size while keeping margins and images is great on small screens. The synchronization also appears to work.
Image-hover does not really feel right, though. When you tap on an image, it is opened in a new tab AND the hover appears. This you will notice when going backward after clicking an image. Maybe I disable the normal click-behavior on very small screens and change it to double-tap to open an image in a new tab.

Script updated for questden.org

I also felt like changing the scriptname to questden-BlICK. ^^

Update: http://phi.pf-control.de/userscripts/tgchan-BLICK/tgchan-BLICK.user.js
Mirror: https://greasyfork.org/de/scripts/392187-questden-blick

Also, if you synchronize your watch-list the data is saved on European (german) servers, so the register interface has a private policy now for legal reasons:

The name change to questden has been in the works for a while but then also tezakia.net was done for a few days because of Tezakia Quest hitting its tenth anniversary.
