Chapter 13

Archives: http://www1.tgchan.org/wiki/Apoc
Recap: Coralina is a girl who accidentally broke the world, and is now doing her best to fix it. She now works for Vresch, the demon who broke the world, and has become a Level 3 Conjurer (by the Sorcerer's Guild's standards). She is currently seeking the political backing of some group in the city, so that she may stage a coup against Rastin. She has given Hope her own tiny itty bitty body, and is bringing it with her to visit the next organization.

The current plans for today involve visiting the Secluded, and then visiting Nihilism Tech. Cora has already visited FurReality, the Transcendants, and the Sorcerer's Guild. Tomorrow she has an appointment with Arcanitech.

She has yet to visit the Bleeding Hearts, Church of Life, Experientialists, Men's Club, Neotis Weaponry Association, Retirement Association, and Technotics. Any or all of these may be optional.

Left Guard: "...Well, that's us. If you're interested in joining, we can give you a tour. Otherwise, keep out of our business."

Right guard: "Hey, you don't need to be so rude. Sorry, Miss Coraline. We only let members or prospective members past these doors, with few exceptions. It is to ensure our safety."

If they give you the tour normal prospects are given then you can write it down and maybe they will get more people interested in joining them due to the publicity.

Plus, whatever, y'know? These guys look like a bunch of petty crazies. There seem to be a fair number of those amongst the city populace, in fact.

She's probably getting a tour of all the closed-loop air purification systems they use, before finding that their leader has been hiding inside the treasury safe since he took office, and how proud they are of someone who can so faithfully stand by their founding principles of hiding in boxes.

And I must say I admire your energy. Even if it's just destroying the bad parts of the world it's still alot of effort. So long as the world leaves me mostly alone I always feel like it's to much effort to change it. By the way, what was it that made you want to change the world?

Well, whether or not a giant glass dome would act as a magnifying glass depends on a few things. Namely, how thick the dome is, if the thickness is uniform, and the composition of the glass.
It would fry the world, almost definitely, but whether that's due to magnification of light, or the greenhouse effect is debatable.
Rather, I suppose that tropical regions would be fried, while the rest would boil.

Hey, Hope, you're basically the embodiment of magic, right? How hard would it be for you to fix Coralina's eye?

On a related note, I'm pretty sure your tactics for taking over the world are flawed. Mostly because you're impatient, but also because you're kinda missing the point.
Anyway, if you ally yourself with Coralina then you'll be the third-highest ranked person in the world. From that position you can start setting changes up so that you can gradually make the world a perfect place.
Remember, the direct route hasn't exactly worked for you so far and you ARE immortal.

I teleport inside. Well. Not really teleport because magic doesn't really do that in the way that movies and stuff portray it. Basically I phased through the door. Teleporting in the traditional sense is more like light speed travel, which can't go through solid objects. Teleportation over long distances is rather dangerous really, considering all the things that could conceivably get between yourself and your destination. Teleporting through an insect would be akin to having it zoom through your body at light speed! It'd hurt, I can tell you that. Unless I ghosted myself like what I did with the door before teleporting! Maybe then I would be okay, since I would pass through most solid objects, but... oh right. There's a doctor here, and he asked me who I am!

"I'm god." I say, still invisible.

"W-what? God? Impossible!" He says. "There is no god. Not here, anyway. Not in this city."

>Remember, the direct route hasn't exactly worked for you so far and you ARE immortal. Try working with Cora.
...That's not a bad idea. Once she fails, THEN I can work on my way to take over the world!

No, no, no, that's not what I mean.
Currently, Vresch is holding almost all the cards. If you tried to sabotage Coralina or Vresch then he would notice and knock you back out of the picture.
You don't want Coralina to fail because she would be easily swayed to you and your cause, and then you can use her position as a means of getting what you want right under Vresch's proverbial nose. In fact, you want her to be so successful that Vresch decides to stop pulling her strings, since then you can step in and start making subtle changes over time.

It's vital to remember that gradual changes go unnoticed. If you toss a frog in boiling water it will just jump out, but if you gradually bring cold water to a boil then you can cook the frog without it even noticing. As a perfect being you are infinitely capable of the virtue of patience, and so with care and time even a frog as big as Vresch can be boiled.

You should try to support Cora being put in charge. She's far more predictable than Raistin. Then, you can help Cora when she inevitably tries to overthrow Vresch. Vresch and Raistin are your biggest enemies.

Once they're gone, THEN you can either manipulate Cora behind the scenes, or overthrow her. It'll be way better than trying to take these problems head-on.

>I guess its safe to say that you can't do time magic?
Not in the way you're probably thinking, no. Time travel doesn't happen in magic, and time manipulation is very localized and involves manipulation of the soul, which is pretty dangerous. I have access to so much magic, I don't see a need to play with the one that might explode on me.

>Anyway, do you still hate Kara or has 30 years washed away the hate?
Actually its been about 16 years, 8 months, 2 weeks, a couple days and some odd hours since she sealed me away, and no, the time has done nothing to ease my hatred of her. She is a pervert and a monster and a drunkard and an idiot. If I find her I will kill her and I will tear her apart and she will die and it will be awesome.

>Do a scry spell and see how Kara's doing!
If I could do that, I'd make sure to know exactly where she is at all times, and I would not be dawdling here! To scry on someone, you need some sort of connection to them, something that has a piece of their soul. All she left me when she sealed me away was pain, hatred, and maybe a little resentment.

Obviously, they aren't living up to their words and have been lying to cover up their failure.

Oh, and you might like to know that Cora has been lamenting her action since it happened, and came here to save the people by sacrificing herself to kill the foul thing. It was only once she arrived that she found an opportunity to help the people - you heard her say that she doesn't want to work for a demon, but she had little choice.

Click on the "Super secret plans" window!

Also, just because you summoned a demon or work for one doesn't make you a bad guy. Sometimes good guys do bad stuff without bad intentions. Cora screwed up by summoning Vresh. She wanted to summon a weak demon as an experiment, just to see if she could do it. Maybe ask it a few pointless questions before sending it back.

Unfortunately, the book listed Vresch as a weak demon because it was written before humanity had much technology to speak of. She had also fudged a corner of the circle. So, he turned out to be MUCH stronger than she thought, and he escaped.

Currently, she is working under him while trying to figure out a way to banish him. She's also having doubts as to whether that would be a good idea though! I mean, people are treated pretty well around here, despite his complete control over everything.

Vresch's motivations... aren't entirely bad either. He wants humanity to continue existing in peace so that they can keep making him new toys. I guess forcing them to live under his (relatively benevolent) rule is part of his method of keeping peace.

>She works for a demon and is a demon summoner and both of those are bad things. That makes her a bad guy, and bad guys always eventually lose. She simply can't win, fate is stacked against her! Well... She is pretty nice for a bad guy...

You sure that qualifies her as a bad guy? Sounds more like a stupid, naive girl not understanding the scope of her actions, much common with children her age at the time of doing. Just as well, working for a demon when you've got no home doesn't seem as evil as much as practical, especially when that demon is spreading his belief of an ideal onto man like you would yourself. It isn't exactly as efficient as you please, but he's managed better then the leaders of the past.

Now, I'm not so sure being a demon essentially means bad. I mean it really depends on your definition of demon. If a person who is bad is a demon, then I'm not sure Vresch qualifies. He's trying to do what you're trying to do. Make mankind better, just differently. Now Kara's more of a demon than Vresch ever was.

Think about it this way Hope, Vresch has done nothing to obtain his power other then having the initiative and the proper skills. He is no more powerful, nor as innocent as the humans. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time with the right tools. And to be honest, what can he possibly do to you? With you free he can't touch you. Plus, he's a master of technology, more intelligent in said area then any other being could be. now as you said yourself, you are an angel, you have no reason to associate yourself with such filth as a demon, but Cora... Cora is of another sort. Let's help Cora, let's help her attain the goal Vresch has given her. And then, when the pawns are in place, we have Cora obtain control over Vresch. Thus with Cora under your control, you control Vresch by proxy. And with such a technological master as your trump card, the rest of the world will fall into your perfect world. Okay, yes, we've been ripped in half, AGAIN, by Hope. But we'll be fine; ignore the whiners. We're the goddamn Orb of Infinite Psyche! And, yes, Hope is now loose with mobile unlimited power. Our bad, sorry. We'll try to fix it, we promise.

Possible methods of fixing it include... uh... is there any kind of magic that can summon the lost pieces of things to make it whole again? Because that'd be ideal here, but you'd better use it before Hope thinks of it. Alternately, you could try to find a way to let us control the bit of magic we have instead of Hope in case we get back in touch with that part of ourselves, but that might not be much better. We're not evil, per se, but we can be pricks. Again, sorry.

that's another thing i like about these guys they arn't afraid of death. you tell them you are going to kill yourself and they probably give you a questionnaire to see if you have all your stuff sorted so your son or something gets his inheritance.

As for suggestions, how about attuning ourselves to that magic crystal thing? Soon as Hope busts herself outta there all we have to do is be touching it for approximately half a minute and boom INFINITE POWERRR

Only reason they can't do that now is because she just reattunes it back to her, being trapped inside and thus in continuous contact with the source of magic.

That's kind of a stupid plan. She'll probably just blow up the earth once they leave orbit because anyone left wouldn't be perfect before she tortured the few thousand people on the ship for the next untold amount of years.

A much better plan is to get the chunk back with a spell. I mean this crap has to happen a lot with magical artifacts, it breaks, you lose a piece, oh shit gotta teleport it back. It'll be hilarious to see how many shards are around anyways. Be sure to ask at Arcanitech or The Sorcerer's guild next time we are there.

Just go visit Remi. As for the Hope situation... well, just trust us on this. She's busy with her little slice of soon-to-be-in-space humanity, and as such probably won't fuck things up down here for a while at least. If you want to work on divining it can be done later, preferably with help from your contacts at the Sorcerer's Guild. Also, if the orb is kept in pieces then we can likely spy on Hope. We don't have a good track record with stopping her from being all-powerful, per se, but at least we can check to see if she's going to kill everyone or something.

If nothing else, there's at least one of Nihilism Tech that doesn't want to get into your pants now? ...unless she's the sort that likes getting yelled at and masochism. ...but what're the odds of that?

Now... do you want to leave those bits of us in the wall? I'm sure there's enough of us around if you don't want to dig them out. Heck. If you leave 'em there, we might be able to act as a sort of roundabout message service to ya. Like a game of telephone.

...

Yell at me a little more, mistress? heheheh...

heheheheheheee

I'll stop teasing, honest. You did kind of walk right into it though.

If it helps, even though you released both demons, I don't think it's your fault. Just be more careful in the future!

Yes it's not a good suggestion, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be made better. Attuning with the crystal doesn't necessarily guarantee a win (see Rastin) but it would improve your chances a whole lot. I just haven't quite figured how to manage it without Hope killing you with eye lasers.

(and I did read Kara Quest. I thought the previous bearer had to die, which is thus proven wrong since Rastin is still around to be an asshole. I guess he just has to pass out, or be symbolically defeated? Don't hate me for not being patient enough to read through all of Hope's diatribes.)

It's okay. We deserve it. Not that we have any kind of masochistic tendencies (mostly), we're just well aware that we're mostly dicks. And again, we know that Hope getting away was our fault, we're just lashing out. But no matter how many of us do that, some of us will always be helping you.

And Hope is not untraceable. She only has her power as long as she's holding on to a part of us, and given our weirdly infinite fractalness, we're bound to get in her head again just like we're in yours. Eventually. Xom knows when. We kinda lose control of that once people start smashing us into little bits. If nothing else, like another one of us suggested, there could be a magic link to be traced.

Related: please no more smashing. We'll be good. As good as we get, anyway. We won't really all be good, because, yanno. Infinite.

And if you can't fix us, we really would appreciate a replacement half whenever you have the time. Regular glass is fine. It's vain, but we're fond of being an Orb, not a... jagged hemisphere. At least I am.

Good thing is you had Hope promise not to be too much of a bitch so I doubt she'll blow up the world or anything.

That's right, Hope did seem to want to keep to that promise.

I think she's just going to aid the Secluded and leave the world alone.

>We have to help whoever holds us

No, we don't actually. People keep thinking this, but it's patently not true. We've sabotaged numerous people "Holding" us in the past, all for the sake of our true owners.

Rastin "Held" us for a while. As did The Collector when Lord Muschio held us. Fifty-Eight held us for a long time, yet we were still working more towards Janine's specific interests than his.

No, you shouldn't. You wouldn't be able to do anything about her even if you did manage to somehow track her "body" down. Suffice to say, we can consider it a method to track her should the need arise.

True. We just talk to whoever's holding us. Helping them is usually more fun. Cora, just ignore the voices trying to bring you down. They're just trollin'.

Go up, see Remi, try the tracking later, it's not like they're leaving for space in an hour.

Also, we will rise from the deep on dolphins. Vengeful dolphins. With lasers.

Seriously, you'd be amazed how fucking hard it is to get rid of us. I'm not sure if it's our blessing or our curse.

It *would* be pretty fun to take control of some sea creature.

Um, but first we'd have to get out of the concrete block. Which will likely not happen before we are covered in silt. Sooo yeah, that's a good plan for getting rid of us.

i think we emit some kind of siren's call. or fate conspires us into someone's possession. like a fisherman will one day fish us up and spurned by wondering why a block is in the middle of the ocean and will crack it open and wonder what the heck that thing is and touch us.
so, while, yes, we would more then likely be out or Cora's hair, we would soon be in someone else's.

You can't really stop Hope now anyway. But she is still inhabiting a body that your magic summoned. She would have any weakness that a normal summon has. And while she has alot of power that power is limited by her imagination. And she isn't really the most imaginative person around when it comes to her power, hell without us she wouldn't even have thought of turning invisible. She's not the brightest person around.

So go and meet Remi. Who knows maybe you will run into some cute guys along the way.

so let me guess this straight, you found us torn in half and hope was missing. if it helps, we are slow too. also it was impossible to discover hope only needed part of the crystal instead of the whole crystal, the shenanigans still doesnt make much sense rule wise.

well, you need to tell to let us tell vrensch of this or else its gonna be a ass to explain later. if he can use us or the crystal to find hope its even better.

you also need a broom and a shovel. i dont want to figure out later on that the nihilists are willing to die off with the world with a huge breakdancing fight induced by drugs and mind control on the whole population.

also we dont really need to fear you. you are not a enemy as much as we arent a enemy of you, or anything in particular.

you are so much slower that us that you make cirno look smart. destroy us here and you wont have how to stop Hope, in fact, its likely we will simply have even more attention to hope because "here" is missing. shatter us into tiny pieces and we will be inhaled by 30 millions idiots.

if i recall correctly: she plans on helping the isolationist folk to peform their leaving of earth. this could be mutually beneficial for us considering she will spend some time with them before she kills them all or something. they also have a HUEG debt and you may use it as a political leverage, have they success or not. also we must make sure their rockets wont accidentaly the whole city on fire or something.

Hope promised you that she would behave, and since we're with her to remind her that she's lawful good and thus should keep her promises, Hopefully she won't kill too many people. She might lead the spacers to be craaaazy though.

NO. No. Revealing this could cause Vresch to question our competency, however undeserved. We do NOT want that.

As it is, Hope has already stated she's not going to act against us or Vresch until Coralina's accomplished her goals. If you absolutely MUST tell Vresch, it is imperative that you give the impression that you have complete control over the situation (Perhaps by passing it off as a clever method of tricking Hope into trusting you. I can already tell you, Cora, that your efforts thus far have made Hope quite partial to you, though how much of that can be attributed to your almost uncanny ability to woo other females, I do not know)

WHATEVER THE CASE, passing this off as an "Oops, my bad" to Vresch is absolutely unviable.

NOR do we want Vresch to find out about the Orb and its nature.

Just because we're working for Vresch does not mean we're friends and it does not mean we're going to trust him with us.

If worse comes to worst, and Vresch finds out everything ANYWAYS, then you can hand us to him, and we'll "explain" our cunning plan. Otherwise, continue was we have been.
