Don't say anything about the stone. After beating the crap out of him/it, say (out loud, as if talking to yourself) "Fucking rapists, why don't they ever learn to leave dragons alone?"

You don't want to ever admit (out loud) that the stone exists, even while you seem to be alone.

The town's two highest-population races are dwarves and goblins.

There's probably at least one within nose-shot of where the caravans unloaded this morning.

However.. right now you need to treat the town as unfriendly territory. Your foe was driven back, but it still lives, and may be working with others. Keep your every sense keen. Also, let elf-nose catch up. If things go bad he may help out simply by reflex, even if he isn't invested in your safety.

Come to think of it: consider hiring Jerahl for a bit. You need an extra set of senses if you're going to be studying magic with the dedication it requires, even if it should come easier for you.

Or maybe 'she' will fold to your every whim. You know how it is with dem kobolds, can't really tell if they're boys or girls. And if Jehral's other half is elf, that just adds to the androgyny.

And kobolds smell like dirt. So Jehral probably smells like, I dunno, a flowerpot or something.

Boy, would've been nice to have that gnoll around (except for the part where you smell him even when you're trying not to).

Unless the boy has some tracking skills, the next stop is to find out more about illusionary disguises. That guy seemed pretty solid for a mass of shadows.

Since your assailant appeared to be a walking mass of solid shadows, there might not be anything to track.
Either way, check with Jehral.

Have you considered telling him about the stone yet? You're pretty much out of earshot of everybody else right now. Much more ideal than mentioning it in the city.

If you think you can Trust him, that is.

Relationship doesn't have to mean lovers. We don't have much insight into Jehral - we know he's clearly friendly, but we don't know if that will overcome a possible price on the jewel, or the head of the one carrying it.

He doesn't seem the type to me, but it's still good to know if we should assume him a professional hireling who can be bought out, or a comrade in arms.

And hey, if it turns out he -is- sweet on you, then at the very least we can rest somewhat safe that he won't stab us in the back?

...That sounded way less manipulative before I said it out loud.

>>173892

...There are so many things wrong with that idea that it loops from bad to awesome, twice.

Still, if you -do- consider upgrading weapons, I'd suggest something you can carry around unobtrusively.

A staff, perhaps? You'd be surprised how many people will ignore someone with a six foot length of stout twatting wood if they feign a slight limp. And almost any idiot with an hour or two, a knife, and a forest can make one.

Read your magic book to see if you can do bad shit to a person from afar if you get their blood. If it's not in your beginner's guide, it's probably not common, and you should consider it at least relatively safe to sell your blood. (Perhaps not 100% safe, but you're already being pursued by assassins, so if it presents a minor danger in exchange for getting you traveling faster, that's probably a good deal) The dude who was interested didn't seem to know who you were, and just seemed interested in turning it into a mana source.

Only tell Jehral what you're doing if he seems to want to follow. If he's not coming, just say bye.

Odd... you did that of your own accord...

Anyway, small people tend to have advantages against dragons. For instance, a hobbit known as Bilbo Baggins... Jehral may be a good investment... (access to small and hard to reach areas. He seems pretty agile and can jump pretty damn high)

In conclusion- do your best to bring Jehral... short of selling yourself of course...

Then you slide up next to him to cuddle so cozily. What comes next? I don't know, but it's probably fun.

:3c Sorry, Rynh. This just seemed like the last shot at coaxing one of those wonderful stammering blushes from ya. Adorable!

You are a dragon, a queen amongst rabble.
Your decision to pay the little one any attention at all leaves you perfectly justified to act out your will.
Never forget that a dragon's core strength is within one's self. Even if you take him as an servant, you must be ready to overcome any obstacle yourself, even against his will.

Though I am beginning to believe that your affection towards the runt is more fraternal than romantic. He's like having a little brother, with no true need to raise or care for him, but plenty of opportunities to shape his life for your benefit and enjoyment.

Quit flirting with him Rynh.

I think you are still feeling vulnerable from being attacked by shadow-man the other night and went a big strong (HAH) man nearby, and that's why you are relentlessly flirting with Jehral.

At least he's started reciprocating with the flirting.

The next morning I head out to see Tura, I'll have to either get supplies or a ride or both, I would think. It's quite a way to where I'm going, but I might be easier to follow on an established trade route.

If you can hire yourself on as a guard, more's the better. Offer them a good deal, since the alternative is heading off alone for free.

If she is dishonest you can use that to your advantage. Just 'unknowingly' drop the magic pendent you're protecting. She'll take it. Then you can watch her and when she gets attacked you can safely kill the attacker. Then you would of dealt with the attacker and you can get a boon from the child for saving her life even though she stole from you.

Well time to think about the economics. We want to get to the dragon mountain and come out on top.

Get Boobies/Tura and this merchant together and see if it is feasible to buy 1-3 pack animals. If we find out what this town produces then we can load our animal(s) and sell/trade it on the way. Farmers might be interested in things like salt, sugar, spices, medicine.

We gotta go check out these dragons, but if we can make money on the way then that's double plus good right?

I ask Tura and the ratman who introduces himself as Rek'iit about either riding with a caravan or buying something to ride myself, although buying and stocking a trade wagon seems a little out of my price range at the moment.

"I go back and forth from the south islands all the time. You could get over half way to where you're going by ship, but then you'd have to find your own way from there, but we could give you a free ride just for the off chance we need you to fend off gnollish pirates or something."

"I trade with the desert city of Shaavan, which is near where you want to go, but you would have to cross the desert after we arrived, but it's a long trip and I'd pay for an armed escort."

The easy way sounds tempting, but could get costly if I need to hire a ship just to get somewhere and the overland route is more profitable, but will take longer and might me more dangerous.

Decisions, decisions...
