"Yes I am! My love was taken, and I'm not going to stand by while she's hauled off as a slave!"

>"You just met her last week, you reckless idiot! Slave life isn't so bad in the north, and you're needed way more by us! You want to just abandon your whole family and village to get killed trying to rescue your romantic fling?!"

Hello, Fen.
Do you really love her? How hard would it be to rescue her?

Also what role do you serve here? How badly are you needed? Or do we even stand a chance of convincing you not to go?
>>
No. 343529 ID: 40cb26
Yes! Err no! You're going to try! To rescue, not get killed! And you aren't really abandoning anyone because... uhm, we'll you're going to try to come back. But you still won't be here. Oh well. Maybe you can bring back fantastic wealth and power or at least some neat travel gifts.

Tell your whiny friend that you'll be careful, come back alive and make it up to everyone somehow. Then scram before more drama comes up.

Erg, all of these impulses of mine are acting up! Second guessing myself and forgetting all kinds of things!

Yes, I really love her. Enough to risk my life over this, even though it'll be incredibly difficult to try and take her back from some damn noble! To remind myself... in my village, aside from basic foraging and hunting, I'm a fighter. I protect the village, as we're smack inbetween contested area, yet belong to neither empire. And this failure to protect her.. I have to redeem myself, as well. I'm somewhat needed here, but my siblings are better fighters anyway. They can take care of themselves.

That 'whiny friend' was my whiny sister, Kiki. I'm leaving before she gets more people to hold me back.

That noble is likely hightailing it back to his capital, several days at most of travel. I hope to catch up, but I have to move quickly. They have mounts.

I hope to catch up, because they must have wagons to transport slaves, so they can't go that fast. But I hear that the mounts are mountains of stamina. In other words, I can catch up if I hurry, but if I wait too long, I can't hope to catch up with their slow but steady pace.

Her name is Lily, and she is more beautiful than her namesake.

I've never rode a mount, before. They only come from the north, and we haven't been able to get our hands on one, or know how to take care of it.

It's not hard to find a wagon, here. But this escort is too small, it must be a straggler.

>"Wahhhh!"

A baby? It sounds like they've probably got a whole family in this one. If I rescue them, then the main caravan may get wise that someone is tailing them. On the other hand, I don't care one bit for slavery as a whole.

Here's a count to what I've got. One scimitar, the clothes on my back, and rations. In my haste, I couldn't get a proper assortment of gear.

Is this definitely slavery, and furthermore, can you actually take them? 'Cause if you can and it is, I'm all for it. Maybe, if you're lucky, the main caravan will think you're actually a part of it?

And when we release the family and let them go on their way, we'll have a mount to chase them with regardless if they know someone is tailing them. Kill the animals? Then I'll have two fighters on me, and have rescued no one. In any case, these mounts are rather slow. They can simply go on for days tirelessly, which makes them useful. They're running speed, while not attached to a cart, isn't much faster than a regular kobold can run.

What are they even doing with spears? Their friends are up ahead, no doubt about it.

>"No. We don't know what we can and can't hunt, out here."

Damnit, damnit. Harboring slaves is a criminal offense, and these collars mark them as such. I'm sure my family is angry at me already, but I have no choice!

"There's a village a little walk down this path. Please go there, tell them Fen sent you."

>"Thank you!" The woman speaks up. "I don't know where we'll be when you're back, but if we can repay you, we'll gladly do it! My name is Takala, my husband here is Kachradis, and our only remaining child is Cheelop. We hope to see you again, thank you, thank you!"

>"If you're after more slaves, the slave drivers said they were going to rest for a night at the next town. You may want to do what you've got to do at that town. Otherwise, pass them entirely and ambush them in the forest again." says Kachradis.

Harboring slaves is a crime you say? And you can enslave any ol' person because these are obviously kobold slavers slaving their own race. I say we slap a slave collar on the noble and call him our slave. Law can't say shit, no one can harbor him, bitch would be ours legally.

We shall beat him regularly like the dog he is. Oh yes, we will sink that low because the revenge will be so sweet and worth the morality hit. Hmm, shit this planned revenge is already so deliciously conceivably my cheeks are already hurting from sweetness, my goodness.

Well I'll be damned.

Ambushing them at a later point could get you the element of surprise again but they would also be alert... and may have hired more guards from town. Using stealth when they're in town could work but they could set a trap for you... and wouldn't you have to worry about the town guard then too?

There are problems with both approaches... In town we could set up a distraction, though. So we could do that.

What an odd thought, but getting it twice...

"Hey! Repay me by teaching your daughter there's no excuse to stand idle while others suffer!"

They look at me oddly, but nod and go on their way.

Back to business. I'm sure the empire has some nuances about slavery that protects nobles. Believe me, I'd love to repay him for this. I'm honestly not sure how their law works, if they even have any written, established law. It could just be half anarchy for all I know. Neither empire has an army, proper. Simply people seeking glory, by harassing the other side. And the villages that are stuck inbetween, where borders aren't established, get harassed by both. That's why we're tough.

I'll go into town and try to lay low. I hope letting the driver live wasn't a mistake.

This is a sneaking operation.
Sneak up behind a guard, slit their throat BELOW the vocal chords, then hide the body somewhere.
Start with any guards outside, then free the animals before making your way into the town. Avoid the gates since people love to watch obvious entrances.
Start freeing the slaves as you come across them, but tell them to stay where they are until you give the signal to flee - don't tell them what it is, just that they'll know it when they see it. Once you find your beloved and/or are spotted by the guards and/or have freed all the slaves, set the wall on fire somewhere away from your escape route.

If we can't enslave the noble then we burn the entire fortress down after we free the slaves. Or break his bones one at a time and make him beg for mercy, heal him right up, then selling him into slavery out of the kobold empire and into the human one.

Then we dissolve the kobold empire. Maybe slaughter the noble's family too. Maybe set up a democracy. Who knows.

Sneaking sounds like a good option, to sabotage the wagons. It will at least slow them down. I'm not familiar with wagons, though. How to I sabatoge it, without simply breaking it loudly...?

They haven't killed you yet. They must have other plans for you. Likely making you into a slave to replace the ones you released.

Your next action depends on how ballsy you are and how many spear dudes there are coming after you. You *could* fight the guards, hoping that the bowmen will not open fire while they have a chance to hit their own men. Then after the guards on the ground are dead, grab a corpse and use it to cover your back while you retreat. But if there's more than 2 dudes on foot you're doomed.

Or you could just submit and let them put you in chains, hoping you have a chance to escape later, or at the very least get sold to the same guy that Lily does.

"F.. Fen."

Afterall, she is a thief as well. Her stolen good... my heart. It seems we are in contest, and she would never forgive me should I kill you or send you off to the mines, never to see the light of day. Yet, if there was an alternative, to get my money's worth, and get you out of the picture all while attempting to win Lily's heart... ah, yes. Let's say that there is a tournament in the capital town, soon. Slaves are allowed to enter, as it so happens. The winner may choose from a variety of prizes, be it fortunes, land, many custom requests within reason, and the freedom of particular slaves. Alas, I am powerless to prevent you from entering, as it is a slaves right, as the laws that govern us state that all are free to engage in ceremonial combat. Should you enter, it would entirely be your choosing, and Lily would have to admit that you entered yourself. Oh, and the battles are to the death, as well. Now, you are my new slave, yes? ask that, while the man's job is to keep you out of trouble, does he have any feelings or loyalty towards your "noble master"? Also ask if you can spend your wish on making the noble your slave and transfer all his property to you? Odds are the king is a jolly fellow or a wicked prankster and probably hates the pretentious fuck of a master you have as much as you and would gladly grant it, if I have my tropes right.

wait better idea that is more probable to be successful
a wish for a duel to the death with your master in the arena where if you win you get his property and title. Definitely potentially entertaining for the whole crowd and isn't my obsessant idea with making the noble a slave.

"I'm going to train, but I have a few questions."

>"Of course, of course, Sir! I would expect that answer as well, given what is on the line."

"Do I have to kill? What if my opponent is unconscious or unable to fight anymore?"

>"Ah, that, sir, is up to the audience! Usually they wish for death, but if the loser has won the audience's appreciation, they may not. Now, you may always refuse, but the penalties for going against the audience are often harsh, from simple floggings to taking off a digit or two. It all depends on how upset the audience is over it."

"Is a potion considered a legal weapon?"

>"Yes, sir, but only if you make it yourself in front of tournament officials."

"Can I make that noble my slave if I win? Perhaps by the chance to duel him, and win his property if I win?"

>"Hmm... to change a wish, Sir, you must submit your wish to the king. That is a tall order, and I cannot promise it, but it is in my abilities to escort you to our King, if you desire. After all, it is the contender's wish, not their masters, should they be a slave."

"What about your loyalty? Are you loyal to my "Noble Master?"

>"Ah, Sir, although Lord Shup may be my superior in ways, the Dragon Knights are a clan of warriors directly under the king himself, and so while Lord Shup is allowed to give me orders, if I believe in any way that it is against the King's wishes, I may disobey without treason. Here is your scimitar, which as I understand, Sir, is your favored weapon."

"Yes. What else can you train me in? Any magic?"

>"Sir, do not get ahead of yourself. I should make sure you are a master of the martial arts. Two weeks are far too short, I'm afraid, to teach any magic that will be of any use in time. I will teach you as much as I can, in order to ward off a variety of assaults."

Joints are usually the weakest, most notably on the inside where you can't have segmented plates make up the difference without losing mobility. Since his arms are at his sides, go for the back of the knee.
Or, if you want to be bold, his eye.
...
You don't actually want to be bold.

Odd, that I keep thinking this guy as undead! There is no such thing.

His cloak goes all the way down, I can't see precisely where the back of his knee is... maybe I'll go for the eye, after all!

>"Excellent, sir! I was afraid you would be too soft hearted for this tournament. After all, when you look upon the eyes of a contender who wishes, say, to save his firstborn from an exotic disease, who's cure is only the rarest and most expensive of medicine, would you be able to strike him down? Looking at your face, I cannot be sure, but this is a good start! Without hesitation, striking into the vulnerable points of your foes! You may have a chance yet, I do hope you can shed your empathy long enough to win."

"What... are you?"

>"I am the Dragon Knight, Kip!"

"Are there... going to be people like you in the tournament?"

>"Haha, Sir, the finest warriors gather here! Many are weak, but should you win, you will fight all of the strongest! I, too, once fought in the tournament, back when the empire was just forming."

"And...?"

>"I lost, I am afraid to say. I fought the champion, but he was a kind one, and allowed me to live. But enough on that! Would you like to visit the king if you desired to change your wish to own the noble, or will I simply drill the art of combat into you for the time being?"

Have him teach you martial craft, but also to mix poisons and apply them to weapons. Limit yourself to a few particularly potent ones, rather than learning about the craft wholesale, as you do need as much time as possible to learn to better fight.

But yeah, call out for somebody.

"I'm fighting in the tournament, to save my girl from slavery!"

>"... not anymore, you're not. When Shup puts a person down here, that person stays. I can only wonder why he hasn't simply killed you."
