Discussion thread: http://tgchan.org/kusaba/questdis/res/356325.html

After being escorted to the nearby police station, Rina is directed to the chief's office. She enters after knocking and sees the chief sitting at his desk, looking over papers and taking a sip of whatever beverage he had in his cup. He sees Rina and gets off of his chair, exchanging a friendly smile as he approaches her. They shake hands.

"Welcome, Ms. Foxhart. Please take a seat. Make yourself comfortable."

Rina sits down in a nearby chair and begins her conversation with the chief, explaining all the details she can remember from the incident in the forest. She talks about her dead friends, the unnatural winds, and the people she seems to be affecting. She also discusses the strange transitions she has been experiencing and the hospital incident. The chief appears to be listening, but also looks deep in thought, trying to digest all the abnormalities Rina is pumping out.

"We understand some strange things have been going on. We are still well underway of a meticulous investigation of the forest, and will be continuing our investigation for a while. The house that paramedics found you in is completely demolished. They were lucky to have found you and your friend alive under all that debris. We also found a body of a raccoon. I assume he's the one you were talking about? The one who started to attack you?" Rina nods, hoping he could understand despite the unrelenting weirdness of the entire situation.

He continues. "And I assume that's one of the places which was attacked by the wind you described. Nothing like that was forecasted it seems. Very strange indeed. Couldn't have been a bomb. I understand you are under a lot of stress. I myself am trying to fully take in all this information without losing my head. In the forest we were able to find a backpack and a box. You are allowed to retrieve the backpack, as we assume it's yours, however we are keeping the strange box for further investigation. Just speak to the officer in the main lobby behind the desk and he should give you the backpack."

"Thank you," Rina says.

"Are you sure there's nothing else on your mind? You mentioned you had amnesia."

"Yes, I am sure, but I'm hoping it will all come back to me in time."

"In the event that it does come back to you, please do give me a visit and let me know everything."

"Will do. Thank you, Sir." With that, Rina and the Chief exchange one last handshake.

Rina retrieves the backpack and leaves.

Rasha and Glade unite with Rina.

"Hey there! How'd it go?" Rasha asks. Rina shrugs.

"Fine, I guess. They're still investigating. They mentioned they have the weird box I found at the forest. I'd like to have that, but it looks like I can't get my hands on it just yet."

"I see. In the meantime, is there any place you'd like to go? I've got my car in the parking lot so we're ready to head off as soon as you are."

Did you tell them that Harry knew something about the box, and that it seems closely connected to all this death?

Regardless, judging by Harry's comments, we might be spreading this to everyone we see, so whatever we do, let's not go near any people that we don't absolutely have to.

Yeah, seriously, you basically backed up Harry's insane story, his criminal charges should be dropped if he's gone through what you've been through but no one believed him. He's socially maladjusted because of the traumatic events though and still needs help, but he still shouldn't be a felon anymore.

Well, it's taken two threads but I think we've finally gotten to the point where Rina can safely masturbate without fear.

Let's drop Glade off back at her home. Wait, no, we shouldn't leave her alone so soon. Is she hungry, she probably hasn't eaten since before the trip.

> You need to get that box! It's the only hope to be free from misery. Maybe you should figure out what it is first though.

It's under police investigation. As much as Rina finds it important to have, she's not just going to go in and take the thing.

> Did you tell them that Harry knew something about the box, and that it seems closely connected to all this death?

Rina forgot to do this, but she takes comfort in the thought that Harry will possibly tell them about it now that he has revealed his own knowledge of the box to her. It will possibly inspire him to let the higher authority know as well, but there's also the possibility they won't believe a thing he says.

> Yeah, seriously, you basically backed up Harry's insane story, his criminal charges should be dropped if he's gone through what you've been through but no one believed him. The doctor mentioned back in the hospital that he was a murderer. Rina thinks it was not just an assumption based off the nurse she killed. Rina remembers the doctor mentioning he was a patient in a psycho ward. Perhaps he had killed before she met him.

> let's not go near any people that we don't absolutely have to.

Duly noted. There's not too much activity going on outside thankfully.

> there's something up with Glade, she's acting distinctly standoffish, ask her what's up

Rina notices Glade has been acting rather strange and confronts her.

"Glade, is there a problem?" Glade does not respond and just plays with her hair nervously, looking away from Rina. "You've been acting strange...is something wrong? Can I help?"

"No," the she-wolf simply responds. Rina sighs. She has never seen Glade act in such a way, not even when she was clearly under stress. Rina is not even sure what could be causing her to be like this.

"Are you mad about the sleeve? If so, I'm sorry. Really I am."

"Rina, it's not the damn sleeve. Just forget about it." Glade paces a few steps away slowly.

"What the hell's wrong with her?" Rasha whispers in her ear. Rina shakes her head. She carefully ambles over to the she-wolf.

> Is she hungry, she probably hasn't eaten since before the trip.

"Are you hungry at all? We can go to my place and eat if you want. I'll make you something."

"I guess I am kinda hungry," Glade responds. Rina sighs in relief. She would do anything if it were to cheer Glade. Should she go back to her place or perhaps Rasha's? He has plenty of food as well and is a decent cook.

Well I doubt she's ever had to deal with all this death on top of a bunch of voices saying this is all your fault. They're getting to her, probably. even if they haven't bugged her in a while, the thought is probably ingrained in her head. You probably are the person that directly opened the box when geocaching, which is probably why so much blame is being put on you. The Darkness has an old notion of association, you are guilty of all the deaths simply by letting it it out. It thinks about justice, old style.

She's not going to be the same girl anymore, Rina. Neither are you. Just be wary here. Get something to eat, probably at her favorite place instead of your place or Rasha's. Try and up her mood, what's left to salvage anyway. Then finally go home and watch a favorite movie of hers.

It was probably in self-defense against The Darkness and he couldn't conduct his story rationally to support it.

So far it's only possessed dead bodies. If we stick together, we can help keep our friends from becoming dead bodies.

They're not going to pay any attention to the testimony of an apparent crazy person. You need to go back in there and corroborate his story—and ask, politely, if you can take a look at the box. Tell them you think it might jog your memory. I know you just want this all to be done with, but it's not yet, and running away from here and pretending otherwise will just let things get worse.

You're right. This can't just be ignored. Rina has to go in there and make it clear that Harry has genuine knowledge on the box and the killings.

She rushes back into the chief's office after letting Rasha and Glade know what has to be done. Thankfully he is still present and Rina tries to explain as slow as possible the things that Harry had mentioned to her and how it had connections to what happened back at the forest.

She mentions Harry's talk about the Darkness being contained in the box, some ritual, and everything else he spouted out. The chief listens, transfixed. He closes his eyes to digest the information.

"Rina, thank you for bringing this up, however, we must still detain Mr. Saunders. He is clearly mentally unstable and must be controlled. He has records of very grotesque murders that he confessed to. We know a bit of his history, but we are aware that a lot more is obscured, mostly because of his connection with an unfamiliar village. We're not sure where the village is located, and Mr. Saunders is not making it easy for us considering his disability to give us any more information, however, we will confront him with your words in mind and hopefully we can get something more out of him. The Locust Grove Sanitarium will be reopened very soon, and eventually we will have to send him back there, but that doesn't mean we won't just forget about him."

"Thank you, Sir. Also, is it alright if I could...just take a look at the box?"

"The box? Oh, yes. I don't see why not, but please do not take anything with you. We must analyze it thoroughly," the Chief says.

"Thank you." With that, Rina acquires directions to where the box is being held. She goes into a rather spacious room full of boxes, strange equipment she's never seen, and some other items. On top of a pile, Rina sees what looks to be the strange box. She takes it and for some reason starts to feel her heart pounding faster and faster. A pang of nervousness courses through her and she holds the box in her hands. She prepares to open it.

There's a weird, gold-plated sphere in the box, decorated with impressive flair. It is mesmerizing to look at.

Suddenly, a couple flashes appear in Rina's mind. She remembers vaguely the time during the trip after she had first found the box. She and Glade sat together in their tent sharing their findings. Rina opens the box to show Glade, but whatever happened after that, she cannot remember.

She sees the face of a familiar ram with spectacles. He was the one who conducted the trip in the first place. David Farrow. Rina does not know if he was among the dead back at the forest. She did not see his body.

What should she do with this strange sphere? The Chief said not to take anything, but Rina has a powerful urge to store it.

No, we'll get it later when the place gets ransacked by Darkness
Because it's gonna get ransacked by Darkness because the investigating cop is gonna be like you and Harry, probably. Or it'll poof back to the forest in time for another geocaching group to find.

He could have been coerced into confession, and it got twisted from self-defense and murder interrogation techniques tend to work out like that. Or he seriously did not plead any self defense because he went nuts from the fact. But whatever, the guy's safe for now until this place gets ransacked or he pulls some crazy escape and runs off with it.

Maybe ask the Light about what it thinks we should do with the orb, box or Harry though.

This is a good plan. If they balk at letting you talk to Harry, suggest that you might be able to help them get info out of him because he trusts you, as was demonstrated in the hospital. If this doesn't get us any conclusive plot hooks, try bringing Harry and the box into the same room. Don't steal the box or the sphere; they've surely taken inventory of it, and we don't have any idea what to do with it even if we do take it with us, so we lose nothing by leaving it here, and retain the goodwill of the police.

Do all that in addition to bugging the shit out of the Light for leads, of course.

Right. Getting on the police's bad side would be a horrible idea considering everything Rina's been through and revealed to them so far. Right now she's quite sure she might have confused the Chief to the point where he may think she has a few screws loose.

> Maybe ask the Light about what it thinks we should do with the orb, box or Harry though.

Rina beckons the Light. It is the first to speak.

"Rina, we too saw the memories that have flashed in your mind. The ram may be knowledgeable in the origins of the object you grasp in your hand. You must locate him. In the forest, he had a vehicle. After the incident he attempted escape in this vehicle, but it has been nearly decimated. You must find this vehicle. Perhaps it will give you a hint of where he could be settled."

"...alright. I'm not too happy at the idea of going back there...but-"

"Rina, the Darkness grows stronger with each second. They understand more and more of the power they are capable of. Already they are experimenting, changing the world around you. Soon enough this change will be permanent until you stop them. If you must, rest, but be make haste and find this David Farrow you have conjured in your mind. And another thing...you must keep the sphere."

"Are you fucking kidding me? The cops would be all over me if they were to-"

"We understand, but we do not know of the sphere's properties or how it will serve in the midst of the Darkness's power. We advocate keeping it to see what it can do...but the choice is yours."

Rina cannot risk losing the trust of the police...but the Light has a point. What should she do?

If that does nothing, pull off one of the bandages and get some blood on it.

I'm particularly concerned by how little the Light seems to know. Perhaps they are the flipside of the Darkness, and were released along with them?

I said this place is going to be ransacked, or has a high probability of being a target of ransackery. The smart thing to do is store it in a stash somewhere. We'll be coming back. The Darkness may look for it too, so confuse it by putting it somewhere else in the room.

Though we should look for camera's or any sentries, little things up on the ceiling and shit. They hide that stuff in motion detectors too. We can't stash it with witnesses.

Rina looks around as nonchalantly as she is able and verily there is a camera snug against a corner of the ceiling.

> The smart thing to do is store it in a stash somewhere. We'll be coming back. The Darkness may look for it too, so confuse it by putting it somewhere else in the room.

Rina walks over to a crude pile of boxes. There is a rather large handbag amongst the pile. Rina goes over to it and stashes the sphere into the bag.

"Rina, are you sure?"

"Yes, I am. We'll come back for it later," she bluntly replies.

"...very well." The Spirit leaves.

With that, Rina looks back up at the camera and back down quickly.

"I hope no one paid particular attention to that..." she thinks to herself as she leaves the police station, picking up her backpack that she set next to the front doors.

Rina dashes over to the slumped wolf and embraces her warmly, pressing her face against hers.

First, ask Rasha what happened: if he tried to stop her, if she responded at all, and if he noticed something odd before hand.
Second, ask Rasha to take off his sunglasses for a second so you can look at them, since you are feeling a bit paranoid. In that brief period, activate the Light for just a second and look into Rasha's and Grace's eyes. If they don't make eye contact directly, tell them to look at you in the eyes.
I don't know if that is what the Light is capable of, but it seems likely we should be able to see any welling of Darkness through the gateway of the Soul. If we see nothing, then Grace or Rasha have legitimate sanity issues that need to be dealt with.

> Glade's favorite food place.

As far as Rina knows, Glade does not have a specific favorite food place. It'd probably be better to cook at home since it would keep them away from other people.

> I suppose neighbor's aren't considered third parties? Somebody would have to be a hermit to not involve a third party of some kind.

Harry said back at the hospital: "It's all tying together. But now that you have laid your pretty eyes on me...I am now a part of that world too!" He may have meant that upon looking at someone, they would be infected and would develop a connection with the Darkness, as well as the alternate "world" they seem to be thrust into randomly. If she just doesn't look at anybody else, it'd probably be fine.

> Why'd you start dating him? I forgot if you remembered something or you're just going along with it. Guy's got a creeper vibe, even if he's been a trooper with how weird stuff has been going.

How rude! Well...Rasha can be weird sometimes, but he's no creeper! The memories Rina found back at the hospital were all hers, most definitely. She remembers clear as day all the times she spent with him and the happiness they shared together.

> First, ask Rasha what happened: if he tried to stop her, if she responded at all, and if he noticed something odd before hand.

Of course he tried to stop her. If he didn't, Glade would probably have died. Rina has no idea what could've compelled Glade to do such a thing and suspects the Darkness may be doing something to her. Either that or she is literally going insane.

Rina asks Rasha if he noticed anything weird before Glade started walking into the street.

"Nothing," Rasha responds. "She was leaning against the streetlight over there and then just started to waltz into the road. She was lucky I was keeping a close eye on her."

"You know what," Rina starts, "I have to do this. Rasha, could you take off your glasses for a moment? This will only take a moment."

Rasha hesitates for a second, but nods in understanding and takes the sunglasses off, folding them and placing them on the bottom of the collar of his vest.

"I need both of you to look at me," Rina says. Rasha does so, but it takes Glade a while before she lifts her head to put her eyes on Rina.

Rina focuses her mind in calling of the Light, and it appears once again. Rina gazes at Rasha and Glade. Nothing looks out of place.

She closes her eyes and dismisses the Spirit.

"What was that?" Rasha asks, looking behind Rina. Rina turns and sees nothing. "Oh...nevermind. That was really odd. I could've sworn there was something."

Rina shakes her head in frustration. This is going nowhere. They have to go somewhere. Anywhere. Inside. She needs to gather her scrambled thoughts.

She felt bad not sitting in the front passenger seat next to Rasha, but she feels she should be close to Glade if something were to happen. She looks over at the she-wolf and notices Glade is still looking glum. Rina sighs.

Rasha starts the car and turns to Rina.

"Go ahead and get some rest. Your place is in the next town over." Rina nods in response to this and lays her head on the window, staring out into the city as Rasha drives. Soon enough she falls asleep.

Light! Bro, help us out here. Hallucination or Real Possession? Rina, I can tell he's probably locked the car if it's real, so hit the unlock button and swerve the fuck out of that door.

Rina, what the hell, this is what you get when you sleep with a psychotic supernatural force on your ass. This shit is so amateur. Did we ever say you could sleep? No, we get your ass as well as your friend's life out of forest of doom but you didn't even consult us, your imaginary head voices that constitute as the decision making part of your mind, about whether you should be vigilant or not? And now you decide not to think and do what your creeper ass boyfriend asks you to do. Wow thanks, now we might have another person to kill, and it's one you care about this time. And NO witnesses to back us up.

This reader is prepared to bet it all that it's a hallucination, considering she just fell asleep. The car must be stopped, so GTFO and attempt to engage zombie Rasha in a battle of wits, NOT violence. Since while this probably isn't real, if you throw punches you might be doing THAT for real. Don't worry about Glade--remember it's probably not real.

"Rina? What's up with you?" Rasha's face seems to undulate and transform back to its original self. The atmosphere of utter dread that seemed to appear just in that brief moment quickly fades away. Rina sits back, breathing in deep and fast. "Look, it's alright. Check it out, we're at your place."

It was Leon, her older brother. Rina feels she should be exploding with joy at the sight of him, seeing as how it has been at least a couple years since he left her, or so she thinks, but her joy is trampled upon a realization.

This is not the Leon whom Rina knew back then. Before he left her to go to college, Leon was a very decent guy, well-groomed, and had great perseverance in a drug-free, alcohol-free life.

This Leon in front of Rina seems to be the complete opposite. She thinks she can smell the pungent stench of alcohol wafting all the way from his body. Her face slowly changes to that of disgust and she does not even know if she wants to get anywhere near him now.

"Come on up, sis! I have sooooo much to tell you!"

Rina sighs, waving back timidly. Maybe it's too early to judge just yet.

"I'll be right up, Leon!" Rina calls out as the trio head to the stairwell.

Upon reaching the third floor, Rina and Leon unite and embrace. As Rina put her chin on Leon's shoulder, she could definitely pick up the intoxicating scent of alcohol wafting from her brother. She cringes, but also picks up the familiar warmth and fondness of being close to family. Rina cannot help but smile amidst the repulsive stench.

"I missed you so much, little sis," he says. Rina says back, "I missed you too."

"Nevermind," she says, sighing.

"Hey, now. There's no need to be so down! We're together again!" Leon looks over her shoulder and waves to Rasha and Glade. "And you brought your friends over too! This calls for a party!"

Rina cannot help but remain disgusted regardless of Leon's enthusiasm. His fur is mangy, he smells rather bad, and his eyes are bloodshot. Rina would not be surprised if he had gone even a teeny bit insane while he was away.

"Leon, this isn't the time. I'm sorry, but I'm in some pretty deep shit, and we are going to have to leave very very soon."

"What? Seriously? Girl, I brought cases of the best stuff to celebrate our reunion!"

"You know I don't drink!" Rina groans loudly. "Look, let's just go inside. YOU can only come inside on one condition though."

"Yeah? What's that?" Leon asks.

> what if he comes in and takes a shower?

"You need to shower! You smell horrible!"

"Shower?!" Leon shouts in surprise as they all go inside Rina's apartment.

"Get in there!" Rina pushes Leon into the nearby bathroom. Just taking one look inside her home was enough to make her familiar with the interior again.

"Sheesh! Chill out, girl!" Rina shuts the door behind Leon.

"I'll get some new clothes for you. I'm not letting you follow me around in those," Rina states.

"Man, you've really gotten grumpy!" Rina ignores Leon's remark and sees that Rasha is in her kitchen, looking around and inside the cabinets.

"There's enough around here to make something awesome. Why don't you go take care of what you have to do while I cook something up," Rasha says. Rina nods, suddenly feeling the need to use the restroom. As she goes to the second bathroom, she sees Glade making herself comfortable on the living room couch.

After taking care of her business, everyone waits for Rasha to finish his awesome meal. He sets four plates of eggs and sausages down on the kitchen table as well as four glasses of orange juice. Rina is curious as to why Leon is not done with his shower yet. She goes to the bathroom and listens in, hearing the water running.

"What are you doing in there? We have to eat!" Rina says.

"Hold on, Rina. This feels great! Your shower is awesome!" Leon replies. Rina sighs and heads back into the kitchen to sit with Glade and Rasha. They all eat.

"Thanks, Rasha. That was great," Rina says once they all finish. Rasha smiles, scratching the back of his neck to appear humble.

"My pleasure. So, what are we going to do now?"

"We have to go out into the Locust Grove forest where the incident happened. I'll tell you where to go. I just hope I can get an eye on familiar landmarks..."

"Not much else I can think of. Although, once we're out there, we need to come up with a plan to get back in the police station and...well...take something."

"What?" Rasha says with a slight pause. Rina stirs nervously.

"Yeah, there's something...uh...that belongs to me. Either way, we have to go to the forest and find a vehicle. I'm not sure what vehicle it is exactly, but I was told it belongs to somebody who may know about what's going on here. After that, we'll come up with a plan to get the item."

Rasha sighs and leans back on his chair. "Alright, your call, but stealing from a police station is quite risky don't you think?"

"We have no choice. I need that item."

"What is it anyway?" Rasha questions.

"It's some weird, decorated sphere. I have no idea what it does, but it may help us against those..things. Anyway..." Rina stops, looking back at the bathroom Leon is in. "What in the hell is taking him so long?" Rina thinks she can smell something - something smokey. Just then Leon calls out, "Hey, Rina! I'm done! Could you get some clothes for me?"

"Sure thing!" Rina responds as she dashes to her wardrobe, picking up the most masculine clothes she owns. She goes to the bathroom and the smokey smell gets stronger. Rina knocks and opens the door to find Leon smoking a cigarette. Rina feels deathly cold inside for a moment and furrows her brow. Angrily she shouts at him, "What in the hell do you think you're doing?! You can't smoke in here!"

"Whoa! Whoa! Rina, I'm -"

"Goddamnit, Leon, what has gotten into you?!"

"Me?! What about you? Why are you so flustered??"

"Just put these damn clothes on and get the hell out! Just..." Rina winces, feeling rage build up inside of her like never before. The burning sensation originates inside her chest and courses all throughout her body. A horrible burning pain comes from the back of her left leg. Her injury from the forest - she had almost forgotten about it completely. The heat inside of her seems relentless as it only grows stronger and stronger.

"GET OUT!" she screams. Leon, with a horrified look on his face, dresses quickly and leaves Rina's apartment, not taking a single look back at her. "It's okay, Rina. It's okay. Just calm down, I'm here now."

"I can't believe I did that. I can't believe I screamed at him..." Rina says, wiping away her tears bitterly.

You've dispatched "the darkness" with an icepick and a scalpel. 'Only magic can defeat magic' obviously does not apply here, so get the hell to a hospital and have them take a look. The worst they can do is look at it, WTF, then give you a fresh bandage. More likely, they could at least treat the symptom, and/or find a substance that has a noticeable effect on the black stuff, and thus is potentially effective as a preventative or even as a weapon.

"Fairytale?! Rasha, you still don't believe me? Even after what happened at the hospital?!" Rina questions hotly.

"Alright, so maybe that was kinda weird, but..."

"Rasha, it wasn't just weird. It was real. As much as I'd like it to be, this isn't some fucking dream!"

"Okay, look, nevermind I said that. I'm just still trying to get used to this craziness. Let's just get you to a hospital already!" Rasha says. Rina remains irritated at Rasha's attitude toward the situation, but he is right. They need to get someplace quick to heal whatever the horrible thing on her leg is.

Rina grabs her backpack and the trio leave the apartment. Rina tries to keep a lookout for Leon so that she can apologize to him for her outburst, but he is nowhere in sight. The group turn to leave, but then a disturbingly low-pitched voice comes from nearby.

"Don't continue to resist us, vixen."

There's way too many negatives to not resisting than positives.
For one, death. And you don't get anything out of it. No badass resurrection with super powers or anything, just a big evil thing released in the world. And the evil thing isn't even Rina. Nope, you just die, it gets all the cool things.

I mean, why not resist? If it's inevitable your going to kill Rina, now, later, what's the difference for you? For us, well, we got hope to burn, maybe a few cool experiences left like a sweet ass meal or something. Not to mention cool tv shows we got to be missing.

Tell you what, you give us something really great in exchange, and not a threat, maybe we'll stop resisting. I mean the world is made of exchanges, you have to learn to negotiate here and you're just failing. Can you make a delicious cheese fondu or anything even cool? What? No, your not going to give us anything at all, we just keel up and die for nothing? You're a shitty goddamn salesmen. Do you even do anything good at all? Even the most basic salesmen know you have to give something for something.

Rina, getting tired of this guys generic mocking, so let's make detraction about how dumb his statements are from now on, you know, so he shuts up. What has he done for all these centuries, research what egotistical fucktards say in fiction all the time to their opposition?
