My big nerdy brother Cadmus has finally picked a college to enroll in. At long last, this family vacation is almost over. It’ll be nice to go back home, but Dad will probably have paladin ”work” for his god on the way back. I don’t know when I’ll see him again. It could be a while.

My big lazy brother Hunny got to stay home and guard Mom’s hoard. He has to have ruined everything partying by now. If there’s a coin out of place when we get back, he’s getting kicked out of the lair for sure.

Mom and Dad told us to sit outside the Dean’s building while they handle details for Cadmus’s enrollment. I do my best to ignore my annoying little brother Jekster and all the stares I’m getting from the nerdy college-goers around me.

I don’t need college. I’m a dragon and I’m the only sibling who takes fighting seriously. I’m the most dangerous Terrorscale of all! Except for Mom. And Dad. Could I take Dad in a fight? Sure I could. I beat a fox spirit in honorable combat!

But…

I lost to a fairy.

Not! Don’t think like that. I am a fighter. I’m a big scary shapeshifting dragon who knows how to use tons of different weapons just like Dad. I’m the scariest Terrorscale of all and I don’t need to feel weird around all these nerds with their books!

Right?

Size doesn't matter if a tiny fairy can defeat you. Just ask any one of these nerds, they'll tell you what really counts in a fight.
>>
No. 1079826 ID: b6ec4d

Eh, maybe feel a little weird. You did get beat by a fairy, so there's definitely something to be said for clever fighting. Doesn't mean being strong and scary is wrong, just that both could have merits.

It's up to you whether that means you should learn to be a bit more learned to get stronger, or if you want to pursue strength that can overcome even the most clever of strategies.
>>
No. 1079827 ID: dd3fe0

Well, think about it. How and why did you lose to a fairy? What unexpected weaknesses in your technique and training and overall method and strategy of fighting did the loss show you? The BEST fighters know they won't win every fight -- instead, the absolute best fighters know they must LEARN from every fight, win or lose! After all, if someone trains only to specifically counter your exact method of fighting, or they have a means of fighting which blindsides you, they may win against you, even if you are the overall superior fighter in general, correct?

So, anyway, what can you learn?

Go bully some nerds for staring at you and making you feel insecure. Prove a point to them.

Though you probably don't want to kill them, just intimidate them. Turn to your humanoid form, and bully some of the nerds with a noogie, or wedgie someone, or just push some nerds and be like, "what are you starin' at???

maybe get their lunch money too to add to your own personal hoard.

I shouldn’t need to feel weird. I’m big and scary, and I’m determined to never lose to a sticky-bomb trap again. I learned to cut myself free with my blades when I fought that fairy. That fairy and fox taught me that tiny people can have tricks up their sleeves like sticky bombs and solvent bombs. Items can change the course of a fight, so so it’s important to shake all my opponents’ items out of their pockets when I have them in my power. The more scared someone is of me, the more likely they are to drop their critical items. The fairy wasn’t scared of me. She had a strategy and didn’t get spooked out of it. Maybe that’s one reason I lost?

I made the fox spirit cry, so clearly I’m still scary. I just need to practice being even scarier and spooking nerds carrying items. Like these college students staring at me and whispering. I think I heard one of them say something like I’m curled up like a cat.

How dare they look at me like that? I’m not my little brother. He’s the one who likes attention. Are they stupid? They should be terrified of me!

It’s time to put these nerds in their place for making me feel weird!

A. Tall Nerd Boy with alchemy textbook that reminds me of that noble girl dumb enough to partner with the fairy
B. Shy Nerd Boy with long hair that reminds me of that elf I sparred with
C. Nerd Girl in Oversized Sweater that reminds me of Kayk
D. Petite Nerd Girl with blue hair and space-time textbook that reminds of the fairy who beat me

And 2 for all the reasons Polt brought up. They won't be as hurt by a big dragon bullying them, because they probably never expect that they'll be able to beat one. A dragon is just a force of nature, complaining about one bullying you is like complaining about a tornado wrecking your house. It sucks, but there's nobody to complain to.

Someone on their level giving them shit feels worse, because it seems like they should be able to do more about it.

My little brother Jekster gets up and flies over to an open field where some humans are kicking a ball around. Good! I don’t want him annoying me while we’re stuck here waiting for Mom and Dad to enroll Cadmus at big smarty-pants college.

That leaves me alone, sitting here like a bump on a log. Being stared at.

“Hey Dixie,” says the blue-haired girl to the red-haired wolf-kin. “You like fire. Dragons like fire. Go be friends with her!”

“You think so?” Dixie asks. “She does look kind of cute. Except for those blades. I don’t know about that, Candi…”

“The most dangerous cuddles,” Candi agrees. “Hey, if you don’t wanna, you don’t wanna. But if you don’t ask for dragon rides, you don’t get dragon rides.”

They look at me more intently.

No way! I’m a fearsome fire-breathing dragoness, not a carnival attraction like my brother. I should teach them a lesson.

I look right at the trio and burst into a pyre of green flames, drawing a screech from them and scorching the stone façade of the building nearest me. When the flames die down, I emerge in my lithe lizardfolk form, bristling with blades and green armored plating.

I advance on the spooked nerds. If they like classes so much, I’ll teach them a lesson they’ll never forget!

How do I bully them?

Argh, how are you supposed to bully them if they're taller than you?
You think you can just ride a dragon? The trials to prove yourself worthy of this honor take years of hardship and proving your might.
Now, lift the largest one to prove your dominance. Eat their homework. No one will ever believe them.

Fire's too good for them, just use your sword. Slice not!Landi's backpack straps, not!Dotti's books (or maybe the tail latch of her skirt if you aren't sure that you can cut through that much cleanly. It isn't cool anymore if your sword gets caught partway through, or if you nick her breasts), and not!Kayk's... Shit, she doesn't have much. I guess her sweater? You could do glasses, but that feels too mean. There's bullying, and then there's just being a jerk, y'know?

When you're done, tell the loser nerds that you'll only be ridden by someone with better blade-control than you.

Realize immediately after how sexually charged that sounds and lose some of the coolness that gained you correcting yourself.

I corral my three terrified nerds of choice into a small huddle, waving my cleaver at them menacingly. Thank the stars above that Dad didn’t catch me smuggling it and my daggers along for the vacation, otherwise I’d have to use my blades and tail for this and it just isn’t the same.

“You want a dragon ride, huh?” I say, staring the short blue-haired one, Candi, in the eyes. “You think I’m some kind of pretty pony for you to prance around on? Is that it?”

“U-um…” Candi stammers. “N-no! Not at all.”

“Good,” I hiss. I wave my cleaver in front of the wolf-kin. “Blue-haired girl there is scrawny, Sweater Girl is soft, and you’re both! You’d fly right off my back and my scales would shred you to pieces. None of you have what it takes, weaklings!”

Sweater Girl backs up, but I don’t let her escape. She’s taller than average, but I’m taller. “You!” I say. “What’s the matter? You thinking of running off to tattle to teacher?”

Sweater Girl shakes her head no.

“Well then,” I say sweetly, “Maybe you’re like them, and want to ride me. Is that right?”

Sweater Girl nods her head yes. Oh, she’s in for it now.

“You’ll need proper riding posture,” I say, grabbing her arms and tugging her sweater sleeves behind her back, then tying them together. Now she won’t be able to interfere with what’s about to happen unless she takes the sweater off, and since she appears to be self-conscious, that ain’t happening. “There you go. Back straight, don’t slouch! Good girl. I’m nice and strong. Not even you can tip my scales. Get it?”

“That’s mean,” Candi mutters. “Pi’s sensitive about her figure.”

“Did you just talk back?” I whirl and point my cleaver at Candi. “Them’s fighting words.”

“Aiee!” Candi yelps.

“She’s not fighting with you!” Dixie protests.

“Can’t stop what’s already started.” I slip my cleaver expertly behind Candi and slice her backpack’s straps away, and I grab the bag full of homework. “Ooh, these blueprints look like you put a lot of effort into them. I sure hope I don’t sneeze right now. That would be horrible. Oh, I need some tissue just thinking about it.”

I take a big bite out of a rolled-up piece of paper and wipe my nose with it, then take a breath and burn the snotty bits to ashes.

“No! That’s page ten of my space-time homework!” Candi squeals.

“Oh, please don’t burn any more!” Dixie pleads. “She worked really hard on it!”

“Don’t lie,” I say. “Liars get punished. So do people who talk back and people who slack off on their posture training.”

Dixie whines. At the same time, Pi, the sweater girl, is tugging on her sleeve-knot fruitlessly. I should probably remind her to stay put.

Do I punish one, two, or all of them? How?

The only nerd here who hasn’t gotten a lesson from me is Dixie. How careless of me. She’s carrying tons of books, so she can’t even fight back. She really does need to learn how to better defend herself; I’m doing her a favor.

“If Candi really worked that hard on this homework,” I say to Dixie, “Then she’d be fighting me for it. What kind of weakling doesn’t stand up for themselves? Pathetic.”

“But…” Dixie whines.

“No buts!” I say. “She either cares or she doesn’t. Maybe I’d have given it back if she showed a little backbone. Your turn to learn!”

I step close to Dixie and pluck the knot of her pink hair ribbon, whisking it away. She lets out a yowl of protest, but doesn’t put her books down or try and fight me. She’s nothing like the fox spirit who freaked out on my mom doing the same thing. This wolf is pathetic compared to her.

“That’s Dixie’s favorite ribbon!” Candi gasps. “You… you’re horrid!”

Pi tries again to untie her sweater arm holes and get free, but her arms are tied behind her back and it’s completely useless.

“This is a nice ribbon,” I say. “It’s wasted on you, Dixie. It’ll look way better on me, don’t you agree?”

Dixie’s eyes flash with a glint of anger. She steps toward me and opens her mouth to object, but the moment she does, she trips on a cobblestone and falls straight down, books and overstrained blouse buttons exploding outward. That little bit of pain wipes the anger away, and she’s left on the ground sniffling in an undignified, unbuttoned heap.

“Sad,” I sigh as Candi rushes to help Dixie. Pi looks incredibly flustered. She’s not even going to take off her sweater to help Dixie? She must not like her that much at all. What a selfish, fat weakling.

“I’d better not catch you disrespecting dragons again,” I say to the three nerds. “My big brother Cadmus is joining your nerd school, so if I hear you’re thinking of treating him like a pony or making him do stuff because you think it’s cute, I’ll be back to teach you another lesson, you hear?”

All three nod. Good! I’ve defended the Terrorscale name and made sure no one will ever think of us as cute and cuddly. Except Jekster, but every family is allowed one black sheep. Two is right out! I had to do this to make sure Cadmus is feared just like me and Mom.

I tie Dixie’s bow to my tail tip, just below my diamond blade and above my decorative fins. It looks very pretty, but also dangerous. Perfect! Mom likes it when I earn my hoard. Speaking of hoards… Cadmus hoards books like a nerdy dragon. He could be so much more! Maybe if I help him realize his potential, he’ll branch out and be less nerdy.

These nerds here are nerdy and know their place. One of them even carries books around- perfect! I bet I could convince them to do the same for Cadmus. Some dragons use kobolds to tend their hoard. These nerds are even weaker than kobolds if they won’t defend themselves. It would make perfect sense for them to be Cadmus’s servants.

What duties do I order each of them to carry out for Cadmus? Dixie is great at carrying books, obviously, but what else can she and they do to make sure Cadmus is living his best life as a dragon deserves?

Kinda hard to assign Pi when you can't guess her major at a glance. What's she studying? Dragonology? I guess she could be tutored in the dragon etiquette. Throw in some dragon history too.

Too keep Daddy off your back, you should throw in some escape clauses in the (informal) servant contract. Cadmius might not want them, for some reason, or he might get sick of them. Salary, if only to ensure loyalty, will be discussed at a later date. "It's not enslavement, it's a job offer, I swear!"

Obviously none of these girls are good enough to date a dragon or anything, that would be ridiculous.
But they're good enough to serve a dragon's needs and prepare him to get a fine dragon lady as his girlfriend eventually. Best to have these three serve Cadmus and make sure he's ready for that point. Plus they're NERDS, which means they're well read and probably even got ahold of some of those books their Censor Church is always hiding. The ones with all the carnal stuff.

You should haul these three off somewhere to inspect the goods and claim them properly in the name of Terrorscale.

“Pick up those books, wolfie,” I say to Dixie. “This terrible showing’s convinced me that you three are in desperate need of some self-improvement. I’m gonna give you three sad sacks some purpose in life. Dixie, you’re now officially in charge of carrying my brother Cadmus’s books around for him. No, don’t bother re-buttoning that shirt, you look better like that.”

Dixie, flustered, stops re-buttoning her blouse and gapes at me. She looks to Candi. “C-can you do that?”

“Of course I can,” I say. “Who’s gonna say no? You? These two? The Dean? Your parents?”

No one speaks up, but then I realize there is someone who could tell me I can’t do that: my parents. And Dad would probably not approve of my gift to Cadmus if these servants aren’t entirely voluntary.

“Ahem,” I clear my throat. “But if my brother says he’s uncomfortable with it, then of course you’re free to stop serving him. So make sure you do it nice and make sure he’s living his best life. For example, Cadmus needs to be social and not such a shut-in. Blue-haired shorty, you’re his girlfriend now.”

“W-what?!” Candi blushes a deep red. “R-really?”

“No, not really,” I scoff. “His standards are way too high for you. Did you honestly think I was serious? You’re so full of yourself, thinking a dragon would date you. No, what you’re gonna do is try your best to make him fall in love with you by dragging him everywhere and begging for his attention when he studies too long and needs to, like, get a life. Your job is to fall head-over-heels in unrequited love and make sure he doesn’t turn into a total bookwyrm.”

“This is just like my, uh… sacred texts!” Pi says, a little too enthusiastically.

“Books? Bah,” I say, “You don’t need those. You wanna get a man, you go out and get him. Fantasy boys are for losers.”

“Not all of us can walk around naked and grab a man whenever we want…”

“You don’t know very much about lizardfolk fashion, do you?” I tap my chest and crotch armor. “Nobody’s stopping you from wearing the same. You wanna hang around dragons, no one’ll bat an eye if you dress like Cadmus does. Though, you probably aren’t rich enough to wear dragon fashion. You three would make him look better if you dressed the part of kobold servants to his dragon master. Because, duh, that’s what you are.”

“I like my sweaters,” Pi mumbles. “Do kobolds wear sweaters? I don’t want to wear a loincloth...”

“How do you nerds keep finding ways to piss me off?!” I say, giving Pi shove. “I have a sister, Kayk, that’s just as curvy as you and she’s got no problem walking around without a sweater. Are you calling my sister ugly?”

“No!” Pi squeaks.

“Then I don’t want to hear one more negative word about those extra pounds of yours,” I say with finality. “UNLESS you plan on fighting some dudes, in which case yes, jiggles, you’d need to shape up. But that’s why you weaklings need to serve dragons! Just let your betters handle the fighting.” Unless that dragon is my little brother Jekster, but I don’t mention that.

What kobold fashion should I insist they wear? If I wrap these nerd presents right, Cadmus will appreciate the gift I’m giving him.

The scales of your mother dragon must be a part of their outfits. Ideally, they'd be the only material, but they're in short supply at the moment. You can only get them when she sheds, and will not entertain any other methods to increase the supply.

They can be fashioned into jewery, or underwear for the daring. Wearing her colors, or her insignia, is also acceptable.

Assume these girls will go all in on whatever you say, 'cuz you're just that scary. If you think of it that way, then you need something that works for all seasons.

How about you keep it loose, and only reqyire that they wear vests, similar to how your brother does? Then they could change the base wardrobe underneath as necessary, while still clearly paying tribute to your brother. Maybe you can add a visible spade patch somewhere, based on his tail armor.

Let's be real, if Cadmus were just focused on naked ladies, we'd be somewhere pretty different than a university. A group of nerds recognizing him as the alpha nerd? Yeah, you might just get a smile outta him with that.

“If you’re gonna last as dragon servants, you gotta make him happy to see you.”

Dixie whines. “I knew I was gonna have to wear a loincloth. Or grass skirts, or coconut bra, or worse!”

“This Terrorscale’s gonna force us to be scantily clad handmaidens!” Candi bites her lip. “And no one can stop her, not even the dean!”

“I’ll have to wear only sweaters, and nothing but!” Pi tugs her sweater down over her thighs.

“The hell you talking about?” I grab Candi’s pencil bag and some paper out of her backpack I’ve acquired and doodle a quick mock-up. “Here’s how you’re actually gonna flatter him: you’re gonna wear vests just like his. All. The. Time.”

The nerds look at me, confused. “He doesn’t want scantily clad ladies waiting on him?”

“If that was all he cared about, he wouldn’t be here, would he?” I roll my eyes. “He won’t be impressed with anything normal, that’s for sure. Tell your classmates I made you wear your new clothes, I don’t care, just make yourselves look good for him. Your goal in life is to be Cadmus’s study group and social life. Now get to sewing these vests and make sure he sees you in them on his first day of class, or I’ll know!”

I toss Candi’s backpack at her and she stumbles back. I let the nerds go.

My good deed of the day is accomplished. Mom and Dad’ll be so proud I’m helping the family!
