I'm finally making an official post concerning the things people like to bring up.

The cup size upgrade was a one-shot joke in Venji. I decided to keep it when people asked me to, partially for practice but mostly because I want everyone to have fun and I'm not going to ruin it by being a prude.

Fun is what Venji's all about. I don't mind offering some fanservice to you guys, and I certainly don't mind drawing a naked chick several times a day.

However, if the jokes about Venji being a "fetish quest" go too far, or become the only things people say about it, I'll pull one of my hilarious(?) meta jokes and reset her to how she was in the beginning. Depending on how annoyed I end up being, the points put into Cup Size will either be given back to spend on something else, or removed entirely.

Basically, don't make me regret not putting my foot down on removing that upgrade option.

Same goes with Roz being a pervert. Everyone can have of fun with his, erm, 'desires', but if the jokes start looking more like personal attacks against me (I really can't tell sometimes) or get out of hand, Venji will ask him to stop and he'll be strangely nice about it.

While I'm here, I'll say that I'm not going to begrudge you if you want to make porn of characters from my quests, as long as it wasn't made specifically to make me feel uncomfortable.

I do prefer that fanart of an adult nature be put in the Fanart Thread, though.

I absolutely do not want porn of Jiniki or any of my "personas" (Nice Greg, [pregnant] dragon slink, etc). I also don't want anything of more extreme fetishes. Things like Guro will make me go all Cirr up in this place.

And there you have it. Hilarious over-reactions aside, this is how I feel about the whole thing.

But... I love your quests too. They're my crack. :<

After talking with some others, I decided to remove the Venji Boob upgrade anyway, but not because of the stuff I said earlier.

During the time Venji was fully 'upgraded', it was taking a lot longer to draw because I can't bring myself to just draw two globes and call it a day. So I spend quite a while trying to make bigger boobs look like a natural part of the body, affected by gravity. I then have to spend more time increasing their size because oops I made them two sizes too small again.

I'm not exaggerating when I say this nearly doubled the draw-time, and that leads to me spending 4-5 hours on an update which leads to me updating less often.

Also, it just makes sense that Venji's short stint in boobtown would make her realize she's better off with full mobility.

But I did offer a compromise in keeping it available as a Roz upgrade, being the only one he can take to the old max instead of just +1 level.

So far nobody's made a deal of it, and I appreciate that. I just wanted to write this to explain that isn't not cause of anything anyone said or did-- I just want the updates to continue being easy, fun, and fairly quick.

Hi, I just blundered my way here because of Tezakia Quest, and want to say you are awesome and thank you for putting so much work into something for other people to enjoy.

Well, assuming a slightly faster tech progression due to constant war and apparent lack of vehicles, it would be possible, yes. However, unless the two countries work differently than ours do, they would presumably be exhausted of both manpower and materiel. That could play into any diplomacy attempts, if you ever do get around to making Tezakia 2: Electric Boogaloo, but I'm not sure. I can't exactly say that I'm the best writer since Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle.

It really depends on what type of bomb it is. Are they classic, cartoon-y TNT, hand grenades, or modern plastic explosives? Bombs have been around for a while, after all. Well, as far as weapons are concerned, anyway.

Like with Tezakia Quest, there's going to be a bit of a break before Thread Two of Venji starts. I guess this would be the time to tell me if the joke's getting old and we can call it a one-shot (I'd go back to the thread and give it a proper ending because, you know, perfect record).

Unlike with TeQ, this time I'm not secretly working on an animation, so I might actually recover some energy for the next one. This pause is also going to be heavy on me applying to ALL THE STORES for seasonal work. Venji 2 may be slower due to that, but hopefully I'll at least keep a pace of one a day.

Getting a Job also enables Slissa Quest, which could happen after Venji. Oh man.

I will post again when I have a more definite time for continuing. It won't take longer than a week, though.

I'll go ahead and explain all the BACK AND FORTHING with the boob upgrade for those wondering why I can never seem to make up my mind.

I originally put it in as a one-time joke. I was convinced to keep it. I took it out later because the MAX LEVEL VENJI took longer to draw.

I put it back in again because A: the coat is drawn about the same either way unless people devote all their points to it and B: It was goofy of me to have it sitting there constantly grey'd out.

The reason it was torn out is entirely because of commands + venji's emotions.

The idea of Roz bringing it back was amusing to me, so I did that. I've been taking the quest a little too seriously lately and I want to go back to earlier when it was a pretty lighthearted quest.

I'm not making any more changes to her upgrade window, so we now have 5 things to choose from. Too bad Venji isn't a long-running quest else we'd be able to see them all!

Also, no Venji tomorrow. I really have been faltering on updates... and I think part of it is because I was starting to take it more seriously. I'm going to take a day off, and come back with the hope of going back to when the quest was more fun for both of us. Maybe tone the art back a bit.

It's almost a blessing, as this forced time-out has given me time to ponder scenarios and get some of my spirit back.

It's because their vitals are heavily protected already, but their joints and limbs are more vulnerable. A human who's only carrying a certain amount of armor will want to guard his vitals, but a tozol will want to protect their limbs first.

I'm going to tentatively place thread 3's starting date as Jan 08. It will attempt to run more fluidly than 2 did, and I will be relying more on others to help me ensure Venji ends as strongly as it began.

I know thread 2 had some serious weak points, and my only excuse is that I was running myself too hard. If I start feeling that way again, I will take a week off mid-thread to ensure the quality remains as high as I can feasibly make it.

Venji's start date is being moved back to the 10th, so it starts on a Monday and not a Saturday, among other reasons.

Now that the thread has started, I can point out that there was a paperdoll and nobody "ironically" did a Steve shirt.

Since there's some confusion over the fabric path. Yes, it needs a degree of fudging to work, but it's a low degree for something made out of a sheet that isn't just a toga.

Venji's paused for a couple of days.

TLDR: VENJI WILL UPDATE MORE OFTEN WITH FEWER IMAGES HURRAY

As you probably noticed, Venji had a session a bit ago. I decided to try it to make up for not updating for a while, and it worked out fairly well. I can't really do long sessions because the images take forever to draw and I don't really like spending ALL DAY on the quest.

But I also can't keep doing giant updates that take all day to draw, so compromises.

For the rest of the quest, the updates will be a bit more dynamic. Rather than a daily update of ~6 images utilizing the Queue system, I will do smaller updates more often, resulting in more suggestion points and hopefully a smoother plot flow.

This also means I'll be more likely to at least post SOMETHING every day, instead of having days where I don't update because "FFFFFFFFF 6 HOURS ON DOING NOTHING BUT DRAWING VENJI NOOO."

The intended par will be two updates a day that are ~2 images in size.

Venji is taking one week off starting today (Feb 21).

I need to focus on other things, and the lapse in updates despite drawing fewer images kind of underlines how worn out I am.

All I can promise at this point is that Venji will reach a normal ending. It won't be abandoned, and rocks will not cause a huge massacre.

I have some plans which I believe will make up for this pause. I think you'll enjoy them a lot, and I'll enjoy doing them. WE HOPE.

Some people tried to read Tezakia Quest, but the general limitations of the Flashes combined with how huge the quest is made it hard for them.

If I 'remastered' the Tezakia Quest flashes with a Save/load function and maybe some other features (Seeking? A button to see unused replies to the quest?)... would that be enough for some of you to reconsider reading it?

I guess I'm basically asking for an interest check on making them easier to navigate. The REMASTERED FLASH VERSION would be worked on during the Hiatus following Venji.

Venji's quest might not have done a very good job explaining this, so I will do so here!

Roz can boost a stat (or multiple stats now!) for a time, making it stronger. Roz will vanish while a boost is in effect, but it can be canceled any time and his bar will start filling back up from that point.

If Roz boosts himself, or rather the ROZ stat, he creates a ROZONANCE CASCADE. This allows him to turn into any form that's on his or Venji's mind, and presumably lets him do awesome things. A ROZONANCE CASCADE cannot be canceled, and will run until he is out of energy. He will then require more time to recover.

While the speed of the bar's draining and how fast he recovers is more or less done by feel, I try to consider how many upgrades Roz has had when determining how fast the bars do either. Generally more roz = slower drains, faster recovers

Roz boosting himself and then boosting other stats will result in the stat being boosted a whole lot (or a greater boost on multiple stats), but the same rules apply that it can't be canceled and Roz will need a full recharge. On top of that, Venji will take some damage when the boost is complete. But until then you could in theory boost everything and have one super powerful big-boobed goddess!

Boosting or CASCADING multiple stats will cause a greater drain on Roz's energy. It will also reduce "overload damage" on Venji if a cascaded boost.

This is long so I'll underline the important stuff.

Venji
It started as a joke, then turned into something waaaay bigger than I expected. I got ambitious with the plot and forgot that I was supposed to make a tiny little goofy one-shot.

This is likely because I felt like Venji was a rare chance to get people who couldn't care less about Tezakia a chance to see my questing style. Then I realized they probably wouldn't like it any more with Venji than they did with Tezakia. Whoops!

Venji tried a lot of things. Some of them worked, some of them didn't. In a sense, it really is the spiritual sequel to Tezakia, reviving the Queue system and trying some similar story elements.

It also showed me the flaws of the Queue system, especially when you don't have sprites and pre-drawn backgrounds to throw around. I've learned a lot from Venji, and while I don't feel I did a fantastic job with it, I don't regret running it. The lessons I learned will make Slissa Quest that much better.

To those of you who stuck with it till the end, I thank you. I really hope you enjoyed reading and/or participating in Venji. Through the entire thing, my goal was to make something you'd like, and if you liked it then I did my job.

Above all else, Venji has shown me that I still have much more to learn before I do Slissa Quest. What to do, what NOT to do, how to keep tones and characters consistent... and most of all I learned not to use stat bars because holy cow that's hard to keep track of.

I should also thank Testpattern and Seal for not strangling or perma-banning me (respectively) for completely ruining their canon.

Speaking of which... this should be obvious, but nothing in Venji is considered canon in the Deep/Tozol universe. Its canon is completely self-contained.

Hiatus
Starting now, I will be taking a hiatus. The soonest Slissa Quest will begin is in 2 months. Depending on how kind the job market decides to be, I may end up running a few short one-shots before then. But even if I somehow get a job tomorrow, I'm still taking 1 month off.

Of course, if I don't get a job in 2 months, SQ will be pushed back as will any one-shots. I think you all can understand that survival is a little bit more important than drawing quests for Internet, so SQ simply will not begin until I have some money coming in.

That said...

Current plans
Despite the hiatus, I will still be drawing pictures. Someone has paid for spiders, so I will be drawing spiders.

Someone else paid for an Amiel.dll, so I will be making an Amiel.dll. I somehow felt that needed underlining. I'm not going to lie and say it'll be the sexiest thing ever, but I will be playing it straight, so to speak.

I will be accepting any other commissions people might have, and I will still do ITQ (assuming people ever have anything to ask my characters in ITQ). Technically I'll go from "not really checking ITQ" to "sometimes considering checking ITQ" so the hiatus might be your best bet to ITQ it up!

If you have questions or comments, feel free to post them. If your comment is "I hated X in Venji and you suck!" then you can rest assured that I'm most likely aware of where I failed and that I'll be working on improving for Slissa Quest. Also, there's no need to be mean :(

What is the Queue system?

Venji Quest was awesome, I loved it.

Venji quest needed more murder and less whiny, clingy sharks and corny romance jokes. How does a socially retarded shark attach so fast and strong to a stranger? And everyone obsessed so horrifically over a dumb relationship, Jesus Christ, it was like that entire facility raised it's experiments on 50's moral values and romance... that wasn't Venji.
Fun though.
Giant Ponies should demolish more buildings all the time.

The theory of the queue system is I take a larger number of suggestions than the norm, and weave them into the story of a larger update. The end result is a whole lot of work for me, and an often... bi-polar flow of events.

The method has some huge flaws, so Slissa Quest will not be using it. It'll be acting more like a typical quest with 1-3 image updates, rather than the 3-6+ Venji had.

Titzi attached to Venji quickly because I didn't want to spend 3 threads having her do it slowly. I could have had her be extremely reluctant, not trusting venji until the very end, but I sped it up so the quest could be lighter and funnier (and because I didn't expect it to be nearly as long as it was).

The text has also been cleaned up so overall it's an easier read.

Well, just finished reading Jiniki's Journey, and found it a pleasant expansion to Tezakai Quest. Looking forward to seeing a true second Tezakai Quest. One that I can actually play a part in! I'll settle with the Slumber Party for now.

Sorry for recent delays, but Things keep coming up. As usual, you have my promise that I'll finish the quest in relatively good speed, and I'll get back to daily updates as soon as Shenanigans stop happening.

Oh I forgot to make a postmortem for Slumber Party!

Um... I made some goofs in tone but in general I felt pretty good about it. TGchan surprised me with how insightful they were, especially near the end.

I bet some people want me to go design Amiel's finalized majibeast form, huh?

Slumber Party didn't do a great job being accessable to folks who haven't read the original Tezakia, but I was surprised at how many folks not only read the original, but remembered things about it!


As for future plans, right now I'm going to go back to drawing Hugs (as you have probably seen!) for Typo. I might run something short and goofy for April Fools, but I'm not quite sure what yet. I'll worry about it later-- I have sergals to draw!

Boatface is meant to fill in the gaps in Fish updates, or otherwise be updated when I feel super productive. Fish is on a temporary Hiatus, so it'll be updating more quickly for now, mostly being slowed by me also working on a huge comic commission on the side.

In general it's a NO WORRIES quest. All the things I refused to do, even in Venji, because they were "just too silly" ... well, that's not stopping me this time.

Let's see how incredibly dumb this ends up getting.
